Ugg boots are practical, comfortable and warm shoes that have not gone out of fashion for several seasons in a row. The advantage of these soft and cozy boots is also the simplicity of their design, which allows even novice craftswomen to independently build a pattern and sew ugg boots with their own hands.
Traditionally, for the manufacture of these shoes in the industry, natural sheepskin is used, but ugg boots can also be sewn with your own hands from a boring old sheepskin coat, faux fur, felt, drape or felt.
Also for work you will need strong threads, soles from old shoes, decorative elements. When choosing a sole, it is necessary to focus on the intended purpose of the shoe: outdoor boots need a durable, non-slip material; home ugg boots may have a textile base, and the soles from rubber slippers or slates are also quite suitable for them.
Building a pattern
To pattern boots, you will need several sheets of A4 plain paper and tailor's pins. The paper is wrapped around the heel and the required height of future boots is measured along the shins. With the help of safety pins, the sheet is fixed on the sole, receiving the back of the bootleg.
In the same way, a pattern for the toe of a shoe is constructed. The paper is neatly fixed with pins along the perimeter of the sole, the protruding edges of the sheet are cut off. The pattern is completed by building a part for the front of the bootleg, outlining the line of connection of both parts with a smooth contour. The correct pattern of ugg boots should consist of three parts and a sole.
If you want to sew ugg boots with a fastener, you need to take this into account when forming a pattern for the front of the bootleg and build the part so that later you can sew a Velcro fastener or a large button to it.
Cut out the details
Paper parts are pinned to the fabric with pins and traced with chalk exactly along the contour, but when cutting it is necessary to add another 2-2.5 cm of seam allowances. If an old sheepskin coat or fur is used in the work, then the cutting is performed on the seamy side so that the pile is inside the finished product.
It must be borne in mind that when using very dense fabrics, a home sewing machine may not cope with them; in this case, the sewing of ugg boots will have to be done manually, using the technique of the outer seam "over the edge".
How to sew ugg boots
The part of the sock is carefully sewn to the upper part of the ugg boots, after which the side seams are made and the sole is sewn if it is made of the same fabric as the rest of the parts. For a street version of boots, you will need cut leather insoles. The insoles are sewn to the finished upper of the product, after which they are glued to the polyurethane or rubber sole.
The junction of the sole with the details of the toe and boot is edged with a thick decorative tape. To make the ugg boots, sewn by hand, sit well on the leg, it is recommended to make small holes in the upper part of the boot with an awl and thread a leather cord through them. Velcro or buttons are sewn to the product in the area of the flap for fastening; ready-made ugg boots are decorated with pom-poms, embroidery, applique made of fur, leather or felt.
