Divinely beautiful and extraordinary - orchid flowers. These are tropical plants. They are often collected, used in symbols and company names. More recently, orchids were out of reach for home gardening enthusiasts. They could only be found in special nurseries and in wildlife.
But people have tamed this mysterious plant and got the opportunity to care for orchids at home. It should be noted that there is no place for lazy people in this matter. An orchid needs a reverent attitude and care.
Let's figure out all the same how to care for orchids:
- The orchid must be planted in a special substrate. You can buy it, or you can cook it yourself. To do this, you need to boil dry pine bark a couple of times at intervals of several days to get rid of harmful insects. Then cut it into small pieces and mix with chopped dried sphagnum moss.
- Choose a transparent or white pot so that the roots of the plant do not overheat in the sun. Let it be plastic so that the roots of the orchids do not stick to the walls and are not injured during transplantation. Make sure there are holes in the pot - for good ventilation and to avoid stagnant water.
- When the pot is ready, on the bottom, we put pieces of foam plastic as a drainage for good water movement. Then we lay down the substrate so that it takes up three quarters of the pot. And then we place the orchid. Do not crush the roots! After that, add the remaining substrate.
- It is important to remember that the orchid requires a transplant no more than once every three years.
- In terms of lighting, the orchid is a light-loving plant, which, however, is best protected from the midday sun. To do this, place the flower on the east or west window.
- Orchids feel best at temperatures from + 20C to + 25C.
- Water your orchid once every two to three days in summer and once or twice a week in winter. When doing this, use warm water. It is better that it be defended. You also need to spray the flower with warm water every morning.
- In addition, to regularly water the orchid, be sure to additionally "feed" it. This can be done with special fertilizers 1 time per week during growth and flowering, 1 time per month the rest of the time.
- Any grower eagerly awaits the moment of flowering. In an orchid, this occurs at the age of one and a half to two and a half years. Sometimes it happens that the impetus for flowering can be given by a decrease in watering or a drop in air temperature.
- You can also use a hot shower for the orchid to bloom. To do this, place the flower in the bathroom and water it with a weak stream of water (40C) for several minutes. Then let the water drain, and you will blot the center of the plant with a napkin to avoid decay.
- If you notice signs of stress in a plant such as wrinkling or yellowing of leaves, lack of flowering, then it is better to look for another place for it and adjust the conditions of detention. As soon as the orchid takes root, it will grow and delight you with its flowering.
