Step 1
It is better to start caring for orchids in a pot at home by choosing a suitable place for the plant. He will feel comfortable on the west, north-east, north or east windowsill. On the south side, you will need additional shading. Direct sunlight can burn the orchid leaves. The most comfortable temperature for flowering is between 18 and 25 degrees.
Step 2
An orchid purchased from a store should be taken care of at a room humidity of 30-40%. If the room is too dry, it is better to place the pot on a tray of water. It is necessary to water the orchid after its substrate has completely dried, and the plant should not be in a dry state for a long time. This is one of the reasons why the pot should be transparent. So you can more easily determine the need for watering by the absence of moisture on its walls and clarification of the roots. When the roots of an orchid are saturated with moisture, they turn bright green.
Step 3
Watering is an important part of potted orchid care at home. You need to water on the substrate or immerse the plant in a container with water. It is better not to spray the leaves with liquid so that they do not start to rot and become stained. But once a month, the orchid must still be cleaned, for example, by arranging watering in the shower and then drying it with a cloth.
Step 4
Do not forget to feed the orchid during the growth period through watering, for example, using the fertilizer "Kemira Lux". As soon as the plant begins to bloom, it is better to put it in a cooler place and stop watering for a while (1-2 times a month), only spraying the substrate. At optimal temperatures, flowering can last up to six months. At the end of flowering, you should not cut the orchid flower stalk if it is not completely dry. Often, the peduncle becomes the basis for the further growth of the plant.
Step 5
Do not bury the aerial roots of the orchid that are on top of the substrate. As it grows, it can release many of these roots. But at the same time, darkened and drying leaves and stems should be cut off, this will only benefit. Pay attention to the quality of the substrate, which should make up the bark of medium and fine fractions. At low indoor humidity, it is advisable to add sphagnum moss.
