The ancient art of decorating knitted fabrics with intricate ornaments has not lost its relevance, it has only been enriched with new subjects. A homemade jumper with a colorful two-tone or multi-color pattern will always be in sight and will not go out of style. The product can be decorated with an ornament with one bright element, a decorative strip, or all cut details can be made in the same style.
It is necessary

Step 1
Think carefully about the ornament for the jumper - working on it will require painstaking work, and a mistake even in one loop will ruin the whole idea. Start by choosing a simple two-tone pattern and practice with a yarn swatch. Only after that is it recommended to move on to more complex elements on the product itself.
Step 2
Try knitting a jumper in a popular ethnic style. Interesting ideas will be suggested by publications with examples of old handicrafts. When choosing a pattern, consider the purpose of the garment. For example, a Scandinavian ornament in a two-color white-gray scale (characteristic elements - snowflakes, spruce, deer, cones) is suitable for everyday wear. A festive outfit can be decorated with a multicolored southern pattern (birds, horsemen, female figurines); bright Ukrainian floral motifs or exotic Asian ones. Geometric shapes will fit into any style and are suitable for people of any gender and age. For children, choose vivid images of heroes of folk tales.
Step 3
Transfer the selected ornament onto a piece of squared paper. You must depict one repeating element - the pattern rapport. The pattern will be knitted with hosiery (alternating front and back rows). Change of yarn one to another is done from the "face" of the product. Thus, each square of your circuit should correspond to one front loop. The appearance of the jumper depends on the accuracy of the executed drawing, so be careful. Use markers of the appropriate color.
Step 4
Start knitting a jumper, constantly referring to the pattern of the pattern. Gently change the desired yarn by pulling the non-working yarn from the wrong side of the fabric. Try not to pull the broaches so that the details of the garment do not lose their shape, but do not leave them too loose. The length of the threads pulled should match exactly the lengths between loops of the same color. This method of knitting an ornament with a change of yarn in one row is usually called jacquard.
Step 5
If you chose not to repeat the rapports in one strip of the canvas, but isolated large drawings, it is recommended to master the intarsia method. In this case, use a separate ball of thread to knit each decorative element. There will be no broaches on the inside of the jumper. To prevent holes from appearing on the borders of loops of different colors, it is necessary to fasten the yarn at the point where the balls change. Wrap the used thread tightly around the new working yarn, and only then continue to work on the product.
