Drawing animals is not easy - different animals have different body structures, look different, have different wool texture and differ in a lot of other parameters. However, artists get real pleasure from drawing animals - especially drawing horses and zebras, conveying the dynamics and beauty of their images. You can easily learn how to draw a zebra if you perceive the structure of its body in the form of geometric shapes connected by guide lines.
Instructions
Step 1
Start by drawing baselines that match the proportions of the zebra. Use a stock photo of a sideways zebra to guide you as you paint. First, draw two circles, a larger and a smaller one, that will make up the zebra's head.
Step 2
Then, just below the top circle, step back to the right and draw another circle from which the torso begins. Then the torso should expand - draw a larger horizontal oval and finally finish with a third circle stretched vertically.
Step 3
Connect the circles of the zebra's head with smooth lines, and then draw a smooth line for the neck. Trace the circles of the torso, giving it the correct elongated shape.
Step 4
Now work out the zebra's head in detail - give the desired shape to the muzzle, draw the eyes and depict the relief of the zebra's head. Starting at the forehead, sketch out the outlines of the mane that slopes down to the back line.
Step 5
Then draw the line of the mouth and start drawing the hooves. The structure of the legs in this case resembles the legs of horses. In the right places, use circles to depict the knee joints, give the legs the correct shape and circle them in straight lines.
Step 6
Draw the hooves. Connect all the lines and draw even more detail on the zebra's mane, and also draw the ear that is visible from behind the mane. Draw a tail that can overlap the back knee joint.
Step 7
Once you've finished building the zebra's body, start drawing the stripes. Take a close look at the photo of a real zebra and see exactly how the stripes are located on its body, where they are directed, how they bend. This will allow you to draw the stripes as accurately as possible, giving the zebra volume and realism.
