For lovers of embroidery, silk ribbons are a real find. The combination of fabric and ribbons allows you to create amazingly colorful and voluminous designs. At the same time, a unique thing can be done quite quickly. Working with ribbons is not as laborious and time-consuming as with the traditional use of colored floss threads. However, for a good result, you need not only taste and imagination, but also possession of the necessary embroidery skills and suitable tools.
It is necessary
- - embroidery hoop;
- - silk ribbons;
- - needles with a long eye;
- - floss to match the color of the ribbons;
- - braid;
- - working canvas;
- - pencil;
- - scissors.
Instructions
Step 1
Find a good base for your silk ribbon embroidery. The fabric should be strong (to hold all the stitches) and fairly elastic (so that the tape can easily pass through its structure). Usually needlewomen use cotton, linen and silk.
Step 2
Think carefully about the future drawing - the appearance of the finished product will largely depend on the compatibility of the working cloth and silk ribbons.
Step 3
Use only special needles. Check how easily they fit into the fabric - there should be no puffs. Pass the tape through the eyelet - if it fits easily and slips without twisting, then you have selected the right tool.
Step 4
Study the manufacturer's information about the purpose of a particular type of tape and the features of their care. It may be that they cannot be washed - in this case, you will have to use silk for decorative purposes only and wash your hands thoroughly before work.
Step 5
Match the correct size of needles and ribbons. So, for ribbons from 7 to 12 mm in width, needles №№ from 18 to 22 are intended. For thin ribbons (about 3 mm in width) it is recommended to choose a needle №24.
Step 6
Hoop the fabric and pull tight. If you are using a delicate base (such as silk or organza), be sure to wrap the hoops with soft tape to keep the fabric from kinking.
Step 7
Transfer the drawing to the canvas with a pencil and start embroidering with ribbons. To begin with, cut the edge of the ribbon diagonally and thread it into the needle. Tuck the end of the tape twice until a small cushion forms. Pierce it with a needle and (supporting the knot with your hand) pull the tape fully out - you have an initial flat knot.
Step 8
Practice sewing the basic stitches described in the silk ribbon embroidery guides. Only after mastering them, you can start drawing. For example, flowers can be done using simple techniques:
- lay a zigzag basting "needle forward" along the tape using a thread of the same tone as the tape. Pull off the tape and form a ring out of it, securing it with stitches. Attach the resulting flower with a thread to the canvas;
- in the center of the flower, make "knots": fix the tape on the wrong side of the canvas and bring it out. Place the needle horizontally and wrap the ribbon around it a couple of times. Holding the turns, pierce the fabric near the first hole and bring the needle to the wrong side;
- pull the tape in front of you and hold it to avoid twisting. Go back to the wrong side of the canvas and gently straighten the resulting loop. Then, from the seamy side, pull a ribbon of a different color through the middle of the loop and make a "knot" - you get a "loop with an eyelet".
- sew forward stitches to the desired length and pull the needle out of the wrong side. Back on the “face” of the fabric, start making the bias stitches that wrap around the basting. Do not touch the canvas;
- lay a basting along the center line of the tape and tighten the "rose". Fix the shape with stitches and decorate the center of the flower with a "knot".
Step 9
Fasten the seam when finished embroidering. The easiest way to do this is with the help of small stitches along the tape from the seamy side of the working fabric with floss threads.
