Embroidery is a great way to decorate your home or create an original gift with your own hands. Among all types of needlework, satin ribbon embroidery is gaining more and more popularity.
Instructions
Step 1
You need to embroider with satin ribbons on sackcloth or other loose fabric. It is more convenient if there is a large distance between the longitudinal and transverse threads on the fabric - it is in this free place that a needle with a wide ribbon is threaded. An embroidery needle should also be appropriate for this type of needlework: the eyelet on the needle should be long and flat so that the ribbon enters it without crumpling, and the tip of the needle will be blunt. Match fabric and needles to your ribbons. Use the ribbons themselves in different widths and colors to create amazing volumetric illustrations. To secure the ribbons to the fabric, you will need floss threads that match the ribbons exactly.
Step 2
Start the first steps in ribbon embroidery with the basics. Sketch a simple pattern on the fabric: a sun or a flower with several petals. For convenience, you can draw it on the fabric, marking the stitching with a needle. Insert the tape into the needle and secure the free end with a knot. Start embroidering from the wrong side of the fabric, pulling the ribbon to the right side and smoothing it with the shiny side up. The simplest stitches will be from point A to point B, that is, you flip the tape from the wrong side, thread it back to the front side and thus cover the fabric with layers of tape. This pattern will turn out flat, but you can vary it by using ribbons of different colors and sizes.
Step 3
Create voluminous roses on your embroidery canvas. To do this, embroider a frame of floss threads: these are five "rays" of equal length, emanating from one center. Bring the needle out from the seamy side to the front side and wrap the ribbon around the floss beams. Run the tape over and under the thread. Be careful not to wrinkle the satin ribbon and always turn right side up. Do not tighten the tape: the looser the stitches, the bulkier your rose will be.
Step 4
Embroider twigs and leaves for a rose from green satin ribbons. Keep the tape face up, and move it 2 cm (this will be the length of the sheet). Holding the tape with your fingers, turn it to the wrong side and return it 2 cm back. Sew the middle of the bend with a needle. This will create a sharp corner embroidered with ribbons. The stem of a rose will turn out if you twist a satin ribbon into a tube and fasten it in several places with floss threads.
