Ice fishing rod nods differ depending on the type of fish and the method of fishing. Each of them must meet certain parameters, but for all nods for a winter fishing rod, the requirements are quite strict.

What should be a nod for a winter fishing rod

When choosing a nod for a winter fishing rod, you should take into account many criteria: the type of fish, the method of fishing and, of course, your own skills. The success of fishing depends on how correctly the nod is chosen.

What are the requirements for nods

The nod should be flexible enough to recover well after the application of stress. At low temperatures, it must retain its properties and not fluctuate when exposed to wind.

The nod is a removable tackle, different types of which are used depending on the fishing conditions. Nobody has yet created a universal nod for fishing in any conditions. But in any case, when selecting a pair of nod-mormyshka, it is necessary to observe the angle of deflection of the tip of the gatehouse when a load is applied to it equal to the weight of the bait. It is customary to divide three degrees of the angle of deflection of the tip of the tackle, depending on the weight of the jig:

  • 25 degrees. Such an angle cannot provide good bait play. The nod is considered to be underused.
  • 65 degrees. The nod is overloaded and therefore high frequency play is impossible.
  • 45 degrees. The optimal deflection angle when the weight of the jig matches the rigidity of the tackle. An error of 5 degrees is allowed.

Characteristics of nods

Nods for winter fishing are very different. They are classified according to parameters such as:

  • rigidity;
  • materials of manufacture;
  • elasticity;
  • length.

Rigidity

According to this parameter, nods for winter fishing are classified into:

  • soft. Suitable for fine, low-amplitude, high-frequency play. Very sensitive, used mainly at shallow depths;
  • medium hardness. Almost universal nods. They are used for fishing in stagnant water at medium and shallow depths. Less sensitive than those described above;
  • tough. Used when fishing from a boat, in flowing water or at great depths.

Manufacturing materials

  • lavsan is the most common material, excellent for jig fishing with bloodworms. Provides small and frequent bait play;
  • metal - rather rigid nods that are used for fishing in current conditions or at great depths. They tolerate heavy loads well. Some anglers even flex the nod further to provide more sensitivity;
  • nipple. Manufactured from a rubber nipple. By design, these are the simplest nods. Currently, they are practically not used;
  • from boar bristles are used for jormus fishing. Now only self-made similar gear is used, they have been withdrawn from sale due to obsolescence;
  • from the fishing line are also withdrawn from production. Previously, they were made with their own hands from a large section fishing line, due to the lack of other materials.

Length

  • long nods are less stiff and more responsive. They also have less elasticity. Suitable for fishing in flowing water or at depth;
  • middle nods are universal. Their sensitivity value is average. Suitable for fishing in winter at temperatures from -10 to -5 degrees. They tolerate frost perfectly;
  • short nods are less sensitive. They are designed for fishing with heavy bait that will provide them with enough load.

IMPORTANT! The greater the load, the stronger the bend of the nod.

Elasticity

Resilience refers to the tackle's ability to regain its shape after applying a load. This parameter affects the sensitivity and quality of the bait game. The more elastic the nod, the more intensively the bait moves. The elasticity of the nod is selected in accordance with the nature of the fish - shy or reckless. And the last one should be taken with a more elastic gatehouse.

Choosing the right nod for your winter job is sure to return with a rich catch.
