It is believed that the knitted woolen jacket with a fastener and without a collar came about thanks to Lord James Thomas Brudenell, Earl of Cardigan, after whom it got its name. Today, the cardigan is a fashionable item for both women and men. It is worn on both cool and hot days. The cardigan can be knitted from thick natural wool, and sewn from thin jersey.

It is necessary

  • - 1000 g of yarn of medium thickness;
  • - straight knitting needles;
  • - circular knitting needles;
  • - sewing machine;
  • - buttons.

Instructions

Step 1

Use a measuring tape to take measurements. You will need to measure your bust, hips, garment length, and sleeve length. Compare your details with the pattern in the magazine and adjust it to fit your size.

Step 2

To determine the knit density, knit with the size indicated on the label of your chosen yarn. If your pattern differs from the one recommended in the model description, change the knitting needles. To make the knitting looser, take a larger knitting needle, and to make it denser, use a smaller one.

Step 3

Cast on the required number of loops for the shelf (they do not need to be tightened too much). Work 2 cm with 2x2 elastic.

Step 4

Make the first hole for the button. To do this, close 2-3 loops (depending on the diameter). Cast on the right knitting needle the same number of stitches that you closed and continue knitting with an elastic band.

Step 5

After 4-5 cm from the beginning of knitting, proceed to knitting the main pattern. On the right side of the part, make holes for the buttons at equal intervals from each other. Next, knit the fabric right up to the neckline.

Step 6

Close 10 stitches and make necessary reductions in every second row. Compare your knitting with the pattern. Knit the left side of the shelf in the same way, but do not knit the holes for the buttons.

Step 7

Cast on the required number of loops for the back and knit with a 2x2 elastic band in the same way as on the front. Next, move on to knitting with the main pattern. Knit straight to the neckline.

Step 8

To form the neckline, close the middle 18 sts and knit each side separately, making the necessary reductions according to the pattern.

Step 9

Cast on the required number of stitches for knitting the sleeves (usually it is 20-25% of the total number of stitches for the front and back). If you cast on 200 loops, therefore, 40-50 loops are required for the sleeve. Knit 4-5 cm with an elastic band, then add 10 loops and continue knitting with the main pattern until the desired length.

Step 10

Machine the shoulder seams. Connect the middle of the sleeve to the shoulder line and machine stitch. Fold sleeve in half, front and back, and sew sides and sleeves.

Step 11

On the circular knitting needles, cast on the loops along the neckline and tie the facing with a 2x2 elastic band. Finish knitting. Sew on the buttons.
