Mat material
Most often, factory rugs are made of plastic, plexiglass, leather or rubber. The same materials can be used, but many of them may require special tools.
The material should be strong, heavy and with a non-slip underside so that the finished rug does not run on the table with the mouse. Before making your original rug, you need to test the material. The mouse should glide well on the surface, not get stuck, not cling to the material, and respond well.
You can use a sheet of cardboard, vinyl wallpaper, or linoleum as a base for your rug. All of these materials are quite durable, widespread and relatively easy to give any look.
It is better to completely exclude fleecy materials from work. Even a short pile that does not interfere with the operation of the mouse will sooner or later cram into the wheel and make the device unusable.
Appearance ideas
It is quite possible to create a new interesting rug from the old one. To do this, it is enough to peel off the top layer that has lost its beauty and replace it with something else. Make the background acrylic primer, then paint the author's picture or use decoupage, and then cover with several layers of varnish.
You can decorate the mouse pad with beads or rhinestones, but in such a way that they do not interfere with your work. You can lay out an ornament from them along the edge.
You can beat not only the surface, but also the shape. Most often, the mouse pad is round or square. You can make it triangular, cut along the edges of waves or teeth, give it a star shape. The shapes of an apple, a pear, a bunch of grapes or various leaves will also be good.
You can stick on the mouse pad not only an abstract ornament or pattern, but also a photo. You can print an image for transferring to a rug not only on paper, but also on fabric.
You can work with any paints on a sheet of thick cardboard. To make the drawing durable, cardboard is laminated or covered with several layers of varnish.
From two layers of plexiglass with a spacer along the edges, several LEDs, wires and a soldering iron, you can create a light and music mouse pad. You can even create a mouse pad from leftover colored yarn. You will need a bag, yarn and hairspray, preferably with extra strong hold. The yarn on the bag is laid out in random order, you can lay out a pattern or create color chaos.
From a spray can you need to apply several layers of varnish, waiting for each to dry. After that, the yarn in the bag is sewn on a sewing machine so that the width between the lines is no more than 2 cm. Then the finished rug is washed with shampoo and, after complete drying, is ready for use.
