Step 1
Arriving at the store, do not rush to ask for the flower you like to pack. Take a close look at the plant first. Often, pests start in orchids - scale insects, snails, house ants. On visual inspection, nothing should move in the pot, and there should be no traces of parasites on the leaves and stems.
Step 2
Orchid leaves should be juicy green, their surface should be smooth and glossy. Pay attention that there are no brown spots on them - they appear due to moisture entering the plant. The tips of the leaves should not turn yellow.
Step 3
The roots of a healthy orchid are silvery green or gray in color. Look carefully at them - they should not show signs of decay (although this can not always be determined visually). If some roots come out of the pot, there is nothing to worry about.
Step 4
Check with the seller how long the orchid you have liked is in the store. It is advisable to purchase plants that have been in the flower salon for no more than two to three weeks. Sellers rarely provide delicate flowers with proper care, and the risk of contracting various diseases from nearby neighbors cannot be ruled out.
Step 5
Find out the species that your orchid belongs to, because different varieties need different care. It is better for a beginner to buy an apartment.
Step 6
Buy still unblown plants, the flower stalk of which is strewn with buds. It will delight you with beautiful flowers for much longer than an already opened orchid.
