Even if you are a jeweler who has recently started making jewelry, you can easily assemble a Bismarck chain using simple and affordable tools.

Instructions

Step 1

In order to make a chain, you will need a wire from any metal, as well as metal scissors, pliers, files, a vice, sandpaper and a deadbolt for winding wire spirals.

Step 2

The diameter of the wire depends on how much weight the finished chain should have. Make a slot at the end of the bolt with a diamond cutter and fix the tip of the wire there. Use a drill to wind the wire into a tight spiral. Scroll the finished spiral slightly with your fingers so that it expands. The distance between the rings should correspond to the thickness of the wire.

Step 3

Cut the links of the future chain, making sure that the distance between the ends of the link is equal to the thickness of the wire. Having cut the whole spiral into links, start collecting the chain. Take one link in your left hand and grab the second link with pliers and screw the second link into the first.

Step 4

Then screw another link into the resulting link and continue to connect the links until the chain reaches the desired length. Collect the links with each other so that the chain takes on the shape of a spiral. Dip the finished chain in flux and lay it on the surface for soldering - by soldering and aligning you will make it flat and even.

Step 5

Cut the solder into small pieces and pour on the surface to be soldered, then melt one of the pieces with a gas torch. Also heat one of the links with a torch to a temperature at which the solder melts and join the molten piece of solder to the fragment of the link. Solder in this way all the links of the chain one by one, first on one side and then on the other.

Step 6

After soldering, place the chain in any bleach for the metal you made the chain - for example, citric acid dissolved in water. Boil the chain in the solution, then clean it with a mixture of baking soda and water if necessary.

Step 7

Pull the finished chain in your fingers to align it - insert the wire into one end of the chain and grab it with pliers for convenience. Pull the chain through your fingers, tightening it up. File the flanks and flats of the chain to complete the look and remove any sharp link edges. Polish the chain with fine sandpaper.
