Usually, simple bird feeders made from plastic bottles are not of good quality. More reliable feeders can also be made using a canister. In it, the feed will be much better protected.
Bird feeder from a plastic canister
Many people are very willing to help birds survive the cold winter. To do this, they make feeders that are hung on windows or trees.
To create the simplest feeder, you will need: a five-liter square plastic canister, a piece of thin rope or cord, household scissors or a pocket knife.
Use a marker to draw rectangular windows on the four sides of the canister. Cut them along the sides and bottom. Then gently bend the cut out areas outward. You should get some kind of windows with visors. The visors may be too long and need to be trimmed a little. These small sheds will protect the feed from rainfall.
Be sure to sand the edges of the visors so they are not sharp. Then make two holes in the canister cap and thread the cord through them. Pull the ends of the cord inside the plug and tie them in a strong knot. That, in fact, is all. It remains only to screw the cork onto the neck and pull the lace up. Remember to add food to the trough and hang it on the tree.
DIY canister and bottle feeder
If the first version of the feeder seemed to you not reliable enough, you can try to make the feeder more complicated. To make it, prepare a small plastic bottle, a five-liter canister, a knife, a hacksaw, as well as a drill and nippers.
First, cut off the bottom of the plastic bottle. It is desirable that its height be no more than two centimeters. Make a rectangular hole in one of the sides of the canister. In this case, you can not try on for a long time. The hole does not have to be perfectly straight.
Place the bottom of the bottle under the neck of the canister. It will act as a container for poultry feed. Then place the bottle inside the plastic canister. It's not difficult at all. First, pierce with a knife or drill a hole in the bottle with a drill. Then take a wire and tie the bottle to the sides of the canister. In this case, it should be pressed very tightly against the canister. Naturally, the quality of the made feeder will entirely depend on your diligence and enthusiasm.
If desired, you can make more original versions of the feeders - with wooden spoons, pumpkin or orange, a large plastic bucket.
