A bright, fun applique on a child's clothes will not only decorate a casual outfit, but also help to hide small holes or spots that have appeared during the process of wearing.
Instructions
Step 1
Create a full size sketch of the applique. Draw flowers, animals, birds, or vehicles. Remember that the drawing should be as simplified as possible, without complex details, with a clear outline. Make paper blanks for each applique element.
Step 2
Prepare your craft fabric. To prevent the edges of the material from peeling off before they are processed, starch cotton fabrics, or treat synthetic ones with gelatin. Iron. Place paper blanks on the material of the corresponding color, circle with a bar of soap, cut out. Make a seam allowance if you will be sewing appliqué pieces by hand. These allowances are unnecessary if you decide to use a sewing machine. If you are going to use a hot melt spider web, iron the pieces of fabric on top of it, and lay a sheet of smooth paper on the inside. In order for the applique to stick better to the clothes, in addition to the cobweb, secure the applique with special techniques.
Step 3
Lay out the cut pieces on the fabric of the main garment so that they form the pattern you want. Pin them with safety pins or sew them with a basting stitch. Make sure that the flaps do not wrinkle the base fabric. Iron it so that the spider web grabs the base fabric.
Step 4
Sew the edges of each pattern with a zigzag stitch on the sewing machine, strictly along the contour. Carefully remove excess fabric protruding from the outside of the seam with small scissors.
Step 5
Use the "secret" technology. Make a pattern for each piece with a seam allowance of 0.7 cm, fold the edge of the flap inward strictly along the contour corresponding to the paper pattern. Grab the fold with a basting stitch. Place the piece on the base fabric. Sew the element with small stitches over the edge, remove the basting.
Step 6
Sew a bias tape along the edge with a basting stitch to each appliqué piece. Place all elements on the main fabric, and machine stitch along the inner contour of the bias tape. Remove the basting seam. Use a bias binding in bright colors.
Step 7
Secure the appliqué details to the main fabric using a buttonhole seam; no allowances are required for the design elements. Use bright, thick threads such as 6-ply floss or iris.
