The seam "forward to the needle" is one of the main stitches in hand sewing and embroidery. With its development, future seamstresses begin their training. Despite the fact that it is considered simple, there are several varieties of this stitch that allow you to create interesting patterns.

Instructions
Step 1
A needle-forward stitch is usually used for sweeping parts. You can do it on any fabric, but for a start it is better to take material with a plain weave. Select threads in a contrasting color to make the seam easier to see. The embroidery needle is more convenient, with a wide eye. Thread in the thread. You do not need to tie a knot. If you are sewing for the first time in your life, draw a long line along which you will sew on the right side of the fabric with a sewing marker along a ruler.
Step 2
Start sewing from the right edge of the fabric. The fabric does not need to be wrapped. Stick the needle from the wrong side, bring it to the front side and make a stitch 2-3 threads long. Bring the needle and thread to the wrong side. Skip 2-3 strands and bring the thread to the right side again. Sew in this way to the end of the drawn line. All stitches should be exactly the same length. Having mastered the seam "forward needle" on the fabric in one layer, try to sweep 2 parts with it. It is possible that you will have to sweep round parts. In this case, the stitch length must be monitored especially carefully.
Step 3
There are several varieties of this stitch in embroidery. For example, parallel. The simplest parallel needle-forward stitch consists of two lines. Sew the first one in the same way as when mastering the basting stitch. Place the second line at a distance of about 0.5 cm. Run the stitches from right to left, strictly under those that are already there. There may be more lines. The stitches can be joined with a "goat" seam, buttonhole, etc.
Step 4
An alternating forward stitch is similar to a parallel one. Run one line of stitches, and then another, but so that the new stitches on the right side are opposite the gaps, and the gaps are opposite the stitches of the first line.
Step 5
An interesting kind of seam is “wave”. Sew one line with a needle-forward stitch. Take a needle with a different color of thread and pull it from the inside out to the right side at the right edge, next to the first puncture. Insert the needle from the bottom between the first stitch and the fabric, then from the top between the second stitch and the fabric. Then the thread will go from below under the third stitch, from above under the fourth, etc. When performing this seam option, it is important to ensure that the needle does not catch the fabric.
Step 6
The needle-forward seam can be further complicated. Start it in the same way as the previous one. Insert the needle from the bottom under the first stitch, wrap it with thread 2-3 times. Guide the needle from the top under the second stitch and sew as many turns. This version of the seam looks beautiful if it is performed on a loose fabric with bright and rather thick threads.
