Step 1
Before starting work, you should decide on the size of the future product. The standard ratio will be 1, 6 by 2 m. If you want the edges of the blankets to cover the armrests and hang from the sofa, then add 30 cm to these parameters. About 50 loops are typed on the needles, of which a sample 10 cm long is knitted. to find such a quantity as the number of loops per centimeter. After that it will be possible to calculate how many loops will have to be cast in order to get an edge of 1.6 m. For example, from 50 loops it turned out 20 cm. We divide the first number by the second and get 2, 25 loops in 1 cm. That is, in 1, 6 m will be 2, 25, multiplied by 160 - this is 360 loops.
Step 2
The simplest patterns are garter stitch and checkerboard. It is not recommended to knit a blanket with only face loops, as its edges will bend inward. Garter knitting is an alternation of the front and back rows on one side, that is, having knitted one row with front loops and turning the product over, the reverse side is also performed with front loops. The chessboard consists of multi-textured rectangles. For example, in the first row, you can alternate 5 loops with the front and back ones, then continue 6 rows according to the pattern, and in the 7th row, change the loops.
Step 3
For work, you should buy circular knitting needles on a fishing line, since in this case you will not have to connect small parts to each other. It is not necessary to knit in one color, the skeins of yarn can be alternated, combining several shades of the same color or contrasting tones. If the product is made with garter stitch, then on the front side the stripes will turn out to be even, while on the back - blurry. In a checkerboard pattern, both sides will be the same. Having typed about 300-350 loops, it is necessary, observing the order of the front and back loops and alternating colors, to knit the entire length of the blanket. It is better to connect the ends of different skeins along the edge, since the knots will be less visible and partially hidden by the fringe.
Step 4
If a regular pair is used instead of circular knitting needles, then the plaid will consist of many squares that are crocheted together. Their pattern may not match, this will add additional texture to the product, as in the patchwork style. In addition, if all the details are connected with a front pattern, then when they alternate in the normal and inverted position, the plaid will look like a large checkerboard. The edges of the elements are folded to one side, which will subsequently be purl. The edge is crocheted, you can add a fringe from cut threads to it.
