A woolen quilt is a nice and warm piece. Wool is highly hygroscopic, so the blanket remains dry to the touch, even if it absorbs a lot of moisture. In addition, the wool dries very quickly. Why not please yourself or your loved ones with a gift in the form of a warm natural blanket? It is not at all necessary to look for such a gift in stores, because this blanket is easy to make yourself.
It is necessary
- - natural combed wool (sheep, camel) - 1-1, 2 kg for a single blanket;
- - thin matter for the inner cover;
- - beautiful lightweight fabric for the top case;
- - sewing machine.
Instructions
Step 1
Wash your wool. Prepare a soapy solution: dissolve a little washing powder in fairly hot water (50-60 ° C). Dip the wool in soapy water and let it soak for a few hours. Do not rub or twist the fibers, otherwise they will collapse and will be impossible to comb. After washing, the wool should be rinsed well. To do this, lay the fibers in layers on a sieve and rinse with hot water until the flowing water becomes clear.
Step 2
Dry and comb the coat. After the water has drained, gently lay the coat to dry. Drying can be done on batteries in winter and outdoors in summer. Once the coat is dry, you need to comb it. Using your fingers, gently straighten and stretch the fibers, making them fluffy. Remove all debris (thorns, twigs).
Step 3
Prepare a blanket base. A thin, soft fabric (batiste or thinned sheet) is a good choice for an inner cover. Cut out two rectangular pieces of fabric to fit the size of your quilt. These will be the top and bottom of the duvet. Take one piece and with chalk or pencil mark parallel lines every 10-15 cm. These are the lines for quilting.
Step 4
Spread one cut rectangle of fabric on a flat surface (table or floor). Spread the wool over the fabric so that there are no gaps and the fibers protrude slightly beyond the edges of the fabric. Place the second rectangle of fabric on top and sew the blanket around the perimeter, stepping back from the edge about 5-7 cm.
Step 5
Quilt the blanket (preferably by hand). Carefully trying not to dislodge the fibers of the wool, quilt the blanket along the lines. This should be done so that the wool does not move inside the blanket and does not fall off to one side. Sew the edge seams, threading in any protruding wool fibers. The edges of the blanket will turn out to be lush (plump).
Step 6
Prepare the duvet cover. Choose the fabric that matches the color and quality. It's good if it's not too heavy. Cut out and sew the cover. Tuck the prepared blanket into it and stitch it. You can use a typewriter to quilt the finished blanket. However, if you do not, then you will always have the opportunity to remove the cover for washing or replacement.
