First you need to decide on the size of the product. It is important to remember that the weighted blanket can be used not only for sleeping, but also during classes with a child with ADHD, autism, etc. It is better to decide in advance what kind of filler will be in the product. You can buy pellets at a specialty store or use buckwheat husks, rice, beans, peas, cherry pits.

To sew such a blanket, you will also need:

  • Two pieces of material, each should be equal to the size of the future blanket, for example, 150x150 cm. You can also use a regular duvet cover.
  • Scissors, thread, needle.
  • Roulette and ruler.
  • A duvet cover, into which the finished blanket will be tucked.

Before starting sewing, you need to calculate the weight of the blanket: 10% of the weight of the future owner +1 kg. That is, if a child weighs 20 kg, then a weighted product weighing 3 kg needs to be sewn for him. Next, we sew two pieces of material together, stepping back from the edge of 5 cm, leave one side open to add filler.

Next, we divide the entire area of the material into identical squares with a side of 10 or 15 cm. We count how many squares have turned out, divide the filler so that each has the same amount. For this, it is better to use weights. Then we sew all the horizontal lines, pour a portion of the filler into each pocket and sew a vertical line. In this way we carry out all the pockets. All that remains is to put on the duvet cover and test the weighted duvet in action.
