A library is a repository of a huge number of books. They are varied in content and purpose, and it can be difficult for a novice reader or a child who comes to the library for the first time to choose the right book.
Instructions
Step 1
First of all, define clearly for yourself what interests you most in literature, what genre and direction, and also decide which author's book you would like to read. Then ask the librarian and they will advise you on a book to read.
Step 2
If you want to choose a book yourself, then use the alphabetical catalog, which should be in any (even rural or school) library. From the catalog, you can understand whether the book you need is in the library and where exactly (in the reading room or in the subscription department).
Step 3
If you cannot find a book by a specific author in the alphabetical catalog, select another work by this writer.
Step 4
Use the system catalog if, for example, you need to find scientific material for writing an abstract on a specific topic. This catalog contains information that reveals the contents of the books. You can quickly and easily select several sources of different authors on related topics and issues and fully, multilaterally disclose the topic in the abstract.
Step 5
Be sure to pay attention to book exhibitions, which are often held in libraries for the authors' anniversaries or holidays. There you can find the necessary material, for example, for an extracurricular reading lesson at school or just discover a new interesting author.
Step 6
Look for books on the shelves not only by alphabetical index (the first letters of the authors' surname), but also by genre. For example, shelves with science fiction or adventures are located separately from the scientific collection (encyclopedias, reference books, dictionaries).
Step 7
Ask a librarian for help, and she will probably point you to the shelves where books are recommended for your age group. After all, if you read a serious psychological novel prematurely, you will not be able to understand and appreciate it.
Step 8
If you are interested in a book, read the annotation to it (it is most often found on the flyleaf). With the help of it, you will receive brief information about the content of the work, as well as about the author. Studying the content at the end of the source will also help you not to be mistaken in choosing the book that is interesting for you.
Step 9
Pay attention to the font too. It is better for younger students not to take books with small letters.
Step 10
When choosing a book, pay attention also to colorful illustrations, because bright and interesting images, for sure, play a very important role in your perception of literary material.
