The emergence of new materials for needlework always arouses great interest among craftswomen. Foamiran appeared quite recently, but has already gained popularity among a large number of hand-made lovers. What is foamiran, what tools are needed and how to work with it - this is not a complete list of questions that invariably arise from everyone who comes across it for the first time.
On the Internet, there are different names for this amazing material: foam paper, foamiran, fom, foam, porous or foamed rubber, rubber suede. Translated from English "foam" means "foam". Basically it is EVA foam, which is used to make beach shoes, sports mats, etc. This material is recognized as safe for health, so it is conquering new areas of production. Now he has penetrated into hand-made. Needlewomen all over the world use it to create flowers, interior toys and other products for home decor, making accessories and decorating clothes.
Foamiran properties
To the touch, it resembles a suede or a very dense sponge. When heated, the sheet can easily be shaped, while the foamiran can stretch quite strongly and retain its shape upon cooling.
The most common is 1-1.5 mm foamiran in sheets of 20 x 30, 30 x 30 cm. For this format, holes are not uncommon, which are not a marriage, since small bubbles are inevitable in the process of pouring the foam. Thin foamed EVA sheet is used to create small items such as flowers and hair ornaments. Less popular and more expensive 2-2.5 mm fom, it is used for making large dolls and children's art. In the latter case, it is used for applications.
How to work with foamiran
Basic tools:
- glue gun, super glue or pencil;
- iron or hair straightener;
- scissors;
- sharp stick;
- pastel crayons or eyeshadow.
Foam rubber is cut very easily, even a child will not experience any difficulties. The material is not afraid of water, adheres perfectly to any surface and even without heating stretches a little, which allows it to be glued almost anywhere. Do not pull on the sheet too much, as it may tear in the most visible place.
On foam paper, you can draw with a pen, acrylic paints, and give shades with pastel crayons. But since not every craftswoman has them, blush and eyeshadow will perfectly replace them.
Precautions
Since a glue gun and an iron are used during the work, precautions must be taken so as not to burn your hands. For beginner needlewomen, it is better to limit the heating of this household appliance to a mode for synthetics. And when using a glue gun, the main thing is that the molten mass does not get on the skin, since it instantly sticks and can cause a burn. Children should also be given glue stick at first.
