A plate decorated using decoupage technique will become an interior decoration or an original gift. Alternatively, you can simply freshen up the design of the cookware and use it as before. Depending on the functions of the finished item, choose one of the decoupage methods.

It is necessary

  • - plate;
  • - paper for decoupage;
  • - glue;
  • - clear nail polish.

Instructions

Step 1

Wash and dry the plate. If you plan on using the decorated plate for its intended purpose, choose a clear glass plate. It can be decorated using the reverse decoupage technique.

Step 2

Take a decoupage card with a pattern you like. Cut out the pattern. Place it in a container of water. The soaking time depends on the weight of the paper. It should be soaked in water, but not soaked.

Step 3

Remove the design and place it on a paper towel, blot it on top with a second towel. Apply transparent glass glue to the plate area, and lightly grease the front of the picture with it. Place the paper on the plate, align. Dab some more glue on top, remove air bubbles from under the paper with your finger, roller or sponge. In this case, do not rub the drawing, but only press on it.

Step 4

Repeat all operations with the next fragment. When the whole plate is framed, leave it to dry for a day. Then cover with varnish. First, spray the craft with spray varnish. When this finish is dry, apply 2-4 coats of acrylic varnish, each time waiting for the previous coat to dry. The result can be polished with fine sandpaper.

Step 5

The disadvantage of decoupage cards is that they protrude significantly above the surface of the plate, and many layers of varnish have to be applied to align. These problems will not arise with paper napkins. You can take special decoupage napkins or regular paper napkins.

Step 6

Iron the napkin with steam on a hard surface. If the pattern is small enough with subtle details, flip the napkin over to the wrong side. Spray on it a colorless varnish from a distance of 30 cm - fine dust should get on the paper, not drops. Cut patterns are attached in the same way as decoupage cards.

Step 7

If the plate is just an interior decoration, you can stick the motif on the front side as well - this method is called direct. For this, plates of any color are suitable, not necessarily transparent. True, decoupage napkins are so thin that the color of the base will shine through them. If you don't want the pattern to get lost, use light plates or thick decoupage cards.

Step 8

Direct decoupage can be made voluminous. To do this, each element of the picture must be duplicated. Stick the fragments one on top of the other until you find their volume sufficient. The accuracy and clarity of the drawing depends on how accurately you combine all the same elements. A plate decorated in this way should dry out within 2-3 days. Only then can it be varnished.
