The Marvel Universe is based on the Marvel comics, but not all comic book adaptations are part of the MCU. It only includes or is filmed by Marvel Studios. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is divided into phases, each film in it has its own place. However, serials and shorts, being part of the universe, can be between phases in the chronology. Those. may not belong to specific parts of the MCU.
Netflix and abc are different from the Marvel universe. The MCU has two features:
- each film has its own story;
- the global plot moves from one film to another, as a result, each of them moves this plot forward.
TV series of the abc channel are connected with the global plot of the MCU, but do not promote, but only supplement it. Netflix series are completely independent stories, with their own plot and their own global world.
Over the years, the Marvel universe has grown and continues to expand. Therefore, it is difficult for an unprepared person to understand the chronology of her films, because not everyone understands that it is impossible to watch "Iron Man 3" right after "Iron Man 2". And to figure it out, you need to study the chronology, which includes three phases.
First phase:
- Film "Iron Man", 2008. This picture lays the foundation and the general tone for the next film adaptations, its action takes place in 2010.
- The film "The Incredible Hulk", 2008. In this film adaptation, viewers understand that the stories of two different characters happen in the same universe, since both Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk mention SHIELD, the super-soldier program, the StarkIndusries logo, etc. … The film is set in 2011. The picture does not continue the history of the 2003 film "Hulk".
- The film "Iron Man 2", 2010. This story is something like a seed for the Avengers, it introduces the Black Widow into the plot, gives many prerequisites for future projects and tells about the new problems Tony Stark faced a year after the first part of "Iron Man".
- Film "Thor", 2011. This is also a preparation for the Avengers, and the main goal of the picture is to introduce the viewer to Thor and Loki. The plot takes place in parallel with the story of "The Incredible Hulk" and "Iron Man 2".
- The film "The First Avenger", 2011. It tells about Captain America - the first superhero on Earth, who, like the Hulk, appeared due to the "super soldiers" serum. The first and last scenes of the film take place in 2011, and the main actions take place between 1943 and 1945. The Tesseract, one of the six Infinity Stones, appears in the film, and it is revealed that the "father" of SHIELD was the SNR (Strategic Science Reserve) organization.

- The film "The Avengers", 2012. The plot is set in 2012, when SHIELD. for the sake of saving the world announces a "general gathering".
Second phase:
- Film "Iron Man 3", 2013. The action takes place in the winter of 2012, when Tony Stark returns home after "Battle of New York", but he is tormented by nightmares. He cannot sleep, and devotes his time to creating new costumes.
- The series "Agents of SHIELD", 2013.
- Film "Thor 2: The Kingdom of Darkness", 2013. The film tells how Thor returned home and found that all nine worlds were plunged into chaos. And how Thor put things in order.
- Short film "Long Live the King", 2014. This is the story of Trevor Slattery, which takes place after the events of the movie "Iron Man 3".
- The film "The First Avenger: The Other War", 2014. This is a story about Captain America, who cannot return home, so he is looking for a new business and becomes an agent of SHIELD, working in a team with the Black Widow. The film is best viewed between episodes 16 and 17 of Agents of SHIELD.
- Film "Guardians of the Galaxy", 2014. It is necessary to watch after 1 season of the series "Agents of SHIELD." This is a story about out-of-Earth criminals who have formed a team to stop the more dangerous criminal Ronan from getting the Infinity Stone.
- The series "Agents of SHIELD", second season, 2014.
- The series "Agent Carter", 2016. This is the story of how Peggy Carter and butler Edwin Jarvis help Howard Stark regain his good name.
- The film "Avengers: Age of Ultron", 2015. In this movie, the Avengers are once again gathered to save the world, but this time they have become a full-fledged team. Better to watch between episodes 19 and 20 of the second season of "Agents of SHIELD."
- Film "Ant-Man", 2015. Watch after season 2 of the series Agents of SHIELD.
Third phase:
The film "Captain America: Civil War", 2016. After the Conquest of Law, the Avengers are obliged to obey the government, but this splits them into two camps: those who are in favor of registration and those who are against it
These are all films that have already been released. But not the whole story. In the third phase, 14 more films are planned, and then the fourth phase.
