If you are inspired by engravings by famous masters, you may well try your hand at making an engraving using the "scratchboard" technique - this is an imitation of an engraving on thick paper or cardboard. You can make it even with children, for this arm yourself with the tips from this article.
It is necessary
- - thick cardboard;
- - paints;
- - brush, sponge or cotton swab;
- - wax candle, chalk or white clay;
- - ink;
- - knitting needle, needle or nail.
Instructions
Step 1
Apply a layer of wax or paraffin to the cardboard. This layer is called "primer". For her, you can use not only wax and paraffin, but also chalk, white clay, egg yolk. You can use a regular candle. Please note that the "primer" must be applied evenly over the entire area of the drawing, otherwise the engraving will not work.
Step 2
Then apply mascara or paint. Please note: the ink will have to be applied in several layers, because at first it will not adhere well to the wax and spread. Each layer must be dried before applying the next. It is most convenient to apply mascara with a wide brush, cotton swab or sponge.
Step 3
Begin to scratch out lines and strokes with a pointed object that will reveal the color base. Special cutter kits are sold for professional artists, and beginners may well use a regular nail, knitting needle, or other sharp object. Be careful - if you are using thin cardboard, do not use excessive force or the engraving will tear.
