A portfolio is a mandatory attribute of school life. Choosing it, children and parents pay attention to the quality and ergonomics of the backpack. But its appearance is usually standard. So if you want to make your portfolio stand out from the many others at school, perfect it yourself.

Step 1
Decorate the backpack with applique. You can buy ready-made patches with a finished edge. They come in the form of drawings or lettering. Sew them to the backpack by hand using a gypsy needle. Choose threads that match the color of the base of the patch.
Step 2
To make your own applique, take colorful pieces of felt. Cut out the details of the design from them and stick or wash on the base fabric. Attach the finished applique to the backpack.
Step 3
The design or pattern can be embroidered directly onto the fabric of the portfolio. Sketch it on paper, separating the areas that should be filled with different colors. Transfer the sketch to the backpack using tissue carbon paper.
Step 4
Stitch the pattern to fill the entire surface. It is best to use floss threads and a needle that does not exceed the diameter of the thread so that the holes in the fabric are not visible.
Step 5
To make ornaments more complex in color and shape, paint the fabric portfolio with paints. Apply paint over the fabric with a fine synthetic brush. Limit areas of the picture that should be filled with different colors with a special outline. You can also paint your portfolio with permanent markers. Choose markers that are suitable for plastic or fabric surfaces.
Step 6
If the briefcase is made of heat-resistant material, decorate it with heat-resistant seals. The size and content of the picture can be of any size. Also, the firms that produce them provide the opportunity to make a sticker according to your individual sketch and use fluorescent paints. Apply the sticker to the surface of the backpack and press it with an iron heated to about 100 degrees for a few seconds (the time should be indicated on the instructions for the sticker). Such a product will withstand moisture and temperature extremes.
Step 7
If you want to periodically change the design of your portfolio, use removable elements. Make a chain of colored pins. Attach badges or key rings to your backpack.
