You can weave baskets not only from vines, but also from threads, fabric, even paper! Weaving from newspapers is especially interesting. Such paper braids are strong enough for home use and look quite attractive. Also, for the newspapers you read, which are usually sent to the city dump, weaving is a very useful application.

It is necessary

  • - newspaper sheets
  • - knitting needles for knitting of various diameters
  • - PVA glue
  • - scissors
  • - paints
  • - brushes for paint and glue
  • - basis for weaving (saucepan, bottle, pot)

Instructions

Step 1

Use a knitting needle to twist the newspaper tubes, the more the better. To do this, cut the newspaper into strips 5x30 cm in size. These strips will make thin blanks for a beautiful, elegant product. If you need thicker tubing, increase the width of the cut newspaper strips.

Step 2

Start winding the first strip: very tightly wrap the edge of the newspaper on the knitting needle. By the way, the thickness of the future tube will depend on the diameter of the spoke. When the tube is twisted to half, you can remove the needle. Secure the edge of the newspaper with glue.

Step 3

At this stage, if desired, paint the finished tubes in any color (use fabric dyes or food colors for this) and dry them thoroughly. Please note that in this case they will become very tough. Therefore, it is better to paint the finished product at the end of the work.

Step 4

Prepare the base for the basket: weave a "net" of 8 tubes - 4 vines vertically, 4 horizontally. Begin to weave in a circular fashion. When the "vine" ends, take another, grease its tip with glue and insert into the previous one.

Step 5

Weave the bottom to fit your base (saucepan, bottle, or pot). Fold the vine upward, trying to follow the shape of the base object. Make horizontal rows, while trying to maintain the same weave density.

Step 6

When the desired height of the basket is reached, cut all the vertical tubes at the same level and bend them outward or inward. Fasten the bent tubes in the previous rows, and carefully cut off the remnants with scissors.

Step 7

Cover the finished product with paint and a layer of acrylic varnish.
