Drum stick tricks develop manual dexterity, focus, and develop perseverance in achieving goals. Rotation exercises with a stick can be used not only by musicians. This is an element of children's finger games, beautiful tricks and even therapy for joint diseases. Learning to hold a rotating tool in your hand is not easy. A worthy reward for numerous workouts is the effect that you will produce with your skill.

It is necessary

  • - consultation with an experienced musician;
  • - drum sticks (pencils, pens, etc.).

Instructions

Step 1

Consult with a percussion expert even if you don't have a goal of becoming a drummer. For mastery with sticks, it is important to know some of the mechanisms of professional playing. Check out the basic drumstick grips and make friends with this unique instrument. The main condition for performing rotational tricks will be the ability to avoid unnecessary muscle tension.

Step 2

Do a relaxation exercise. Hang your right arm loosely. Begin to slowly raise your forearm, touch your bicep with it. The shoulder should remain relaxed, the hand should be sagged.

Step 3

Swing your brush, let it rise and fall freely under the influence of gravity. Repeat these steps until they feel completely natural. It is these relaxed movements of the wrists that are important both when playing drums in general and for rotating sticks in particular.

Step 4

Find the balance point at the stick. Bend your elbow and place the stick between your thumb and forefinger. The middle finger is extended along the instrument, the index finger rests on it - a lock is formed, which will become the fulcrum for the subsequent free rotation of the drumsticks.

Step 5

Hold the stick without straining your muscles. Tap the drum with it - the tool should easily bounce off the plastic surface. It is enough to hold it with light touches so that it does not slip out of your hands. The place where the stick is gripped, where the freest rebound will be observed, is the balance point found. Usually it is located at a distance of 8-12 cm from the thickened end of the tool.

Step 6

If you don't have a drum close at hand, try finding the balance point of the drum stick in a different way. Balance the instrument and determine the balance point, then step back a couple of centimeters from it towards the lower thick part. This is where you need to grab the stick.

Step 7

Try to do the scrolling of the drum sticks like a propeller, first with the control hand, then with both hands simultaneously. When you bring the rotation of the stick in one hand to automatism, you can perform the same actions with the other limb, but in a mirror image. The work will involve fingers from thumb to forefinger; the main clamps are made with three fingers - thumb, index and middle (see step 4).

Step 8

Extend all fingers forward and place the stick horizontally between your index and ring fingers, under the middle one. The upper, slender, end of the instrument should face towards the right side of the body. Think about relaxation exercises; balance with a stick. Take such a starting position so that the instrument is absolutely straight.

Step 9

Press with your middle finger on the stick so that its pointed end deviates to an angle of 45 degrees in relation to the body. Lightly, without pressing, hold the drumstick with your middle finger on top and index finger on the bottom. Reject the little finger. Expand the stick vertically, with the thinned end down.

Step 10

The tool should now tilt again 45 degrees towards the body. This is accomplished with a push of the thumb; the drumstick moves clockwise and unfolds - it looks with its refined end up.

Step 11

Hold the stick between your middle and forefinger; roll it up to the side of your right shoulder. The instrument should take a horizontal position, as in paragraph 8. However, now the upper phalanx of the index finger lies below, the thumb is on top, and the middle phalanx of the middle one on the left side.

Step 12

Using a brush, rotate the stick and set it vertically. If you did everything correctly, the thinned end of the tool will point downwards. Now you must turn the "propeller" in the opposite direction so that the drumstick returns to its original position as exactly described in step 8.
