Patterns of various garments can be found in sewing magazines and on themed internet sites. You just need to copy the drawing and lay a line along the marked lines. however, it may turn out that ready-made clothes do not fit very well - after all, they are designed for the average consumer. To sew a wardrobe, taking into account the characteristics of your particular figure, learn how to build patterns yourself. You can start with a simple vest model.
Instructions
Step 1
Take the pattern paper. In the upper left corner, put point A. From it, draw a line segment vertically downward. Its length should be equal to the desired length of the vest. To determine it, run a measuring tape from your shoulder, across your chest to your thigh.
Step 2
From the extreme point of the line segment, draw a perpendicular to the right. Its length corresponds to the half-girth of the hips. To this value it is necessary to add an allowance for a free fit. The amount of addition depends on how loose or narrow the vest you want to sew.
Step 3
Finish the pattern to a rectangle by drawing two more sides - the side and the top. Duplicate this drawing one more time - the patterns for the back of the product and for the front are different.
Step 4
Draw the neckline in the back drawing. Along the upper side of the rectangle from point A, set aside a third of the circumference of the neck. On the left side, go down 2 cm from the corner. Connect these points with an arc.
Step 5
Make the same width of the neckline on the front. Its depth and shape depend on your preference.
Step 6
Draw armholes on both pieces. In order not to calculate their sizes, copy the armholes from the shirt or jacket - attach them to the pattern and circle. Do the same with the darts on the chest.
Step 7
Add 2.5 cm seam allowances around the perimeter of both patterns. When cutting out, widen one of the front halves by 2-3 cm to make room for loops or buttons.
Step 8
Armholes and neckline can be trimmed with bias tape. In this case, seam allowances in these places of the pattern do not need to be taken into account.
Step 9
You can decorate the vest with patch or welt pockets. Make a separate pattern for them. If you choose a slit pocket, mark the place of the cut on the drawing and make a pattern for the inside of the pocket (2 identical parts). Draw a patch pocket in the form of a square or round its bottom, then add allowances around the perimeter.
Step 10
If you plan to use the pattern more than once, draw it on heavy polyethylene, and write in front of each side with a permanent marker how you calculated its size.
