Processing the neck with an oblique inlay is one of the most convenient sewing techniques, since the plastic and stretchable texture of this tape allows even an inexperienced seamstress to beautifully design complex bends of the product.
Instructions
Step 1
Purchase enough bias tape or make your own. To do this, cut long ribbons 3-4 cm wide obliquely, grind them, placing the cuts diagonally, straighten the edges in different directions. Mark the middle along the length, fold and iron.
Step 2
Step back from one end of the bias tape 0.5-1 cm, bend it inward, iron it. This edge will be the start of work.
Step 3
Place the bias tape on the back of the garment to be trimmed so that the front of the tape is flush with the wrong side of the fabric. Align the edge of the neckline with the folded end of the tape. Place a basting seam along the entire length of the area to be treated. The edges of the product at the shoulder seams must be straightened in different directions. When 2-3 cm remains to the end of the neckline, cut off the inlay with a margin of 0.5-1 cm, bend the remainder inward, finish the basting, fasten the thread.
Step 4
Turn the tape over so that it overlaps the front of the product.
Step 5
Fold in about 0.5-1 cm from the long edge of the tape inward, and lay a basting seam along the front side. Try to keep the width of the tape the same on both sides, this will make it easier for you to work on the sewing machine, and the product will look neater.
Step 6
Use a sewing machine. From the right side, sew a regular stitch along the basting seam. Hide the ends. Remove the basting.
Step 7
Gently sew both sides of the bias tape fold on both sides of the neckline. If the stitching does not go along the edge of the tape from the wrong side, grab it with a few stitches. If the machine seam has gone too deep inside, and the edge of the inlay can bend back and expose the cut, it is better to rip the part and do everything again, since it will not be possible to accurately mask the errors with a regular needle.
Step 8
If you are using a high-quality bias tape with ironed folds, you can immediately place it on the neck so that it wraps around the edge of the garment, and lay one basting seam on the front side, and then duplicate it on a typewriter.
