Step 1
Sewing jerseys at home is not an easy process and the result you expect is not always obtained. This is due to the fact that at home, usually a person does not have the equipment that specialized institutions have, such as tailoring or tailoring. On home machines, at best, only cotton knitwear or knitwear with a small amount of highly stretching synthetic fibers can be sewn well. Prepare special threads, thin and elastic.
Step 2
Purchase or insert a special needle for sewing knitwear or stretch fabrics into the machine. The needle should be selected according to the density and thickness of the fabric. As a rule, this is a rather thin needle, sharpened in a special way, which allows you to move apart the loops of the knitwear without collecting them.
Step 3
Inspect the machine and, if necessary, thoroughly lubricate and clean it. Remember that this moment is often decisive, because there should be no obstacles on the way to sewing a jersey.
Step 4
Set a zigzag stitch on your machine or if you have a special stitch for knitwear. This will give the seam some elasticity. In this case, you should be aware that the zigzag seam must be adjusted and have a narrow stroke.
Step 5
Check the seam on a small piece of knitted fabric and start sewing when you have completed all the steps and the seam is nice and correct on a test piece of fabric.
Step 6
Process all the cuts of the jersey on a home overlock, it is better to leave the cuts without any processing at all.
