Embroidery can turn even the most standard knitted T-shirt into an elegant blouse. She will add a special charm to a strict suit. Embroidery can be multi-colored or to match the product, flat or three-dimensional. The specificity of the material requires a particularly careful choice of pattern and great care in execution. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the density of the knitwear, its texture and the ability to stretch.

Instructions
Step 1
Start by choosing a pattern. If you are going to decorate a thin T-shirt, then in principle, the pattern can be anything. For embroidery on thick knitted items, it is better to choose a pattern with clearly defined shapes and without a lot of small details and color transitions.
Step 2
Translate the drawing. To embroider fine knitwear, first copy it onto tracing paper. Lay out the product so that it holds its shape and does not stretch. If you are decorating the details of a thin, tight blouse just knitted, pin it to the pattern. Determine a spot for the drawing and pin or baste the tracing paper. Sew the outline of the pattern with bobbin thread in a contrasting color. This should be done with small stitches. Carefully remove the tracing paper. If the drawing is small, then you must immediately mark the places of small details. For example, you can make crosses where the centers of flowers or the eyes of an animal will be located.
Step 3
Drawing on hand-knitted knitwear is translated in the same way, only before work it is necessary to strengthen the fabric itself. Hand knitting is easy to stretch, and the embroidery stitches disappear between the loops. Therefore, sweep a piece of gauze from the wrong side and only then apply the pattern. After finishing work, you can quickly delete it. If the jersey is tight, then the contours are first stitched on a typewriter. At the same time, sweep the tracing paper in the same way as in all the cases mentioned. Before you take up the typewriter, sweep the drawing so that you get a mesh with a cell of 8-10 cm.
Step 4
Dark knitwear can be patterned with chalk, flour, or lather. It is better to take synthetic tracing paper. You can also use printing film. The drawing is first transferred to it. Then pierce its contours, making holes at a distance of 3-4 mm from each other. It is better to put something soft under the tracing paper, such as thick drape or cloth. Then sweep or pin it onto the garment and dust the contours with flour or toothpowder. You can also use shaving foam.
Step 5
Having dealt with the pattern, select the threads. On thin jersey, you can embroider, in principle, any, including floss. For knitted or machine-knitted items, it is better to choose threads of the same quality and the same thickness as the yarn. It should not be very twisted, otherwise the stitches will be uneven, and the threads themselves will very easily get tangled. If the pattern is small, you can use any thread of the same thickness. It can be rayon or acrylic yarn, thick colored cotton threads, etc. As a rule, synthetic yarns do not fade, which cannot be said about cotton. In any case, the threads must be checked before starting work.
Step 6
The stitches can be used the same as for woven embroidery. It is best to pre-place the non-woven fabric so that the part does not stretch. The choice of seams depends on the design. For example, you can emphasize the texture of knitwear. For knitted items, a buttonhole stitch is suitable, when the embroidery loops repeat the loops of the knitted part. On thin products, light smooth surface, a cross, finishing seams like a "goat" look good.
Step 7
Embroidery on thick hand-knitted items can be done using a crochet hook. They can make not only the looped contour of the pattern, but also vertical stripes. True, such embroidery is not done spontaneously; it must be foreseen even during knitting. It consists of horizontal and vertical stripes and looks like a multicolored grid. If you knit from bottom to top or from top to bottom, then knit the horizontal stripes immediately. Then hook the vertical ones. The cells can be filled with floral or geometric elements.
