An inkwell is an exotic subject for a modern person. Even for people of the older generation, it has long become only a childhood memory. But the school of the century before last and even partly of the last century, the post office and even the apartment of a literate person of that time cannot be imagined without an ink device. The inkwells were of various shapes, but mostly in the form of a truncated cone or jar with a narrow top and a lid.

Instructions
Step 1
Think about what kind of inkwell you would like to draw. For a scene from the life of a school in the middle of the last century, the simplest one, in the form of a truncated cone, is most suitable. But for the poster for the Pushkin evening, it is better to take something more refined. But in any case, it can be represented in the form of several geometric bodies. At the bottom, as a rule, there was a short wide cylinder, the middle part was made in the form of a truncated cone, and the upper part was again a cylinder, but thinner and shorter than the first.
Step 2
Lay the sheet as you like. A still life with an inkwell can be supplemented with a quill pen or fountain pen, a sheet of paper. Determine the location for the inkwell and draw a horizontal line equal to the width of the bottom. Divide this line in half and draw a vertical centerline through the middle
Step 3
Determine the ratio of the height and width of the entire ink tank, as well as its individual parts. Divide the centerline accordingly. The ratio of the parts in height can be arbitrary, but remember that the bottom cylinder does not have to be very high. They were always made wide and low. There shouldn't have been a lot of ink, otherwise it would thicken and become unusable. Make the overall height roughly equal to or slightly less than the width of the bottom. Move about 1/3 to the lower cylinder and put a point. Divide the remaining upper part into 4 parts, set aside 1/4 on top and also put a point.
Step 4
Through all the marks, draw horizontal lines parallel to the bottom. It remains to determine only the width of the upper part of the truncated cone and the upper ring. The first is approximately half the distance from the axial to the side wall of the cylinder, the second is slightly wider.
Step 5
From the ends of the bottom line, draw two lines parallel to the centerline until it intersects with the next horizontal line. From these intersection points, draw oblique lines to the points that mark the ends of the top of the truncated cone. Draw a ring on top, which looks like a thin strip on the plane. Draw a cap on the side. It is attached to a ball and looks like a hat. For a billboard or poster, such an inkwell will be enough.
Step 6
If you are painting a still life, you need to add volume to the inkwell. Make the bottom line not straight, but convex. Imagine that there is an oval in front of you. The higher the inkwell stands in relation to your eyes, the narrower this oval will be. Its convex part is directed downward. Draw the top ring in the form of an oval. Make a small oval in the middle. The shape can also be conveyed with the help of lighter spots on the body of the inkwell. On the lower cylinder, the spot will be an irregular oval positioned vertically. On the truncated cone there is an oval with ragged edges, located obliquely, or an irregular triangle.
