Many novice guitarists, so confident in their abilities that they are ready to learn to play on their own, make many mistakes that in the future affect their self-esteem and, of course, the very performance of the compositions. Do not forget that you should not close your eyes even to the slightest flaws.
Instrument selection is a very important part of all guitar learning. Maybe you still have a guitar from your dad or, say, your brother, and you decided not to buy a new one, but it is worth noting that if this guitar is too old or you just don’t like it, then it’s better to change it. The instrument should be liked not only by its appearance, but also by the way it lies in the hands, by its sound.
Some people find it much more convenient to learn to play the guitar in splendid isolation, but sometimes some, albeit small, company is needed. It's easier to learn with a friend. Also, having already acquired some playing skill, you can try playing two guitars: rhythm on one and solo on the other.
This is a very important part of the whole process! Without learning the correct placement of your fingers, you will not be able to play at a fast pace later, take a barre and much more. Oddly enough, many self-taught people miss this important point, and then suffer. So do not be lazy to watch video tutorials and suffer a little with it.
Of course, it will be much easier for a beginner to use a tuner to tune his guitar, but still try to learn how to tune it by ear. This will not come immediately, over time, but it will develop your ear for music and significantly speed up the process of tuning itself.
This is far from necessary, but still such a skill will open up many new roads for you. You can play not only by chords, but also by tabs, which means more melodic and beautiful melodies. In addition, you will be able to compose and record music on paper yourself, which, you see, is a huge plus.
