Instructions

Step 1

Load the movie file into VirtualDub editor. Select the File and "Open video file …" items in the main application menu or press Ctrl + O. After the file selection dialog appears, go to the directory with the movie, select it in the list, and then click the "Open" button.

Step 2

Set an acceptable scale for displaying the content of the source and resulting video frames in the preview panels. Right-click on the source frame preview pane, select scale from the context menu. Do the same with the preview panel of the resulting video frame.

Step 3

Skip to the beginning of the portion of the movie you want to record. Move the current frame slider at the bottom of the VirtualDub window, as well as the footage navigation buttons and Go menu items to navigate to the desired video frame.

Step 4

Set the selection start marker at the current position of the video. Press the Home button or select Edit and Set selection start from the main menu of the application.

Step 5

Skip to the end of the portion of the movie to be recorded. Follow the steps similar to those described in the third step. Adjust the position of the slider using the control buttons and Go menu commands.

Step 6

Set the end of selection marker at the current position of the video. Press the End button or use the Set selection start item in the Edit section of the main application menu.

Step 7

Disable the processing of audio and video tracks by the application. Check the Direct stream copy items in the Audio and Video sections of the main menu.

Step 8

Burn part of your movie to your hard drive. Press the F7 key or click on the File item in the main menu, and then select the "Save as AVI …" item. Go to the directory where the movie fragment should be saved in the Save AVI 2.0 File dialog. Specify the file name in the same place. Click the Save button.

Step 9

Wait for a portion of the movie to finish burning to disc. The elapsed time and the remaining time until the end of the recording will be displayed in the VirtualDub Status dialog.
