In order to properly paint a bench model of an aircraft from the Second World War, it is necessary to have historical information about the camouflage colors of real combat vehicles, methods of painting models, compositions of dyes, as well as methods of artificial aging of the model's appearance.

It is necessary

  • - nitro enamels of various colors;
  • - solvents;
  • - aluminum powder;
  • - atomizer

Instructions

Step 1

Before painting the model, prime the entire surface with a compound prepared from four parts of acetone and one part of GF-21 primer. The mixed components are defended in a closed jar, after which the parts are primed with the resulting liquid. After the primer has dried, the parts of the aircraft model should be painted before assembly, so as not to paint over the adjacent parts with an unwanted color.

Step 2

From a distance of 15-20 cm, apply layers of nitro-enamel diluted with solvent No. 646 to the aircraft parts; 647 to a liquid but not transparent state. The solidification time of the layer is about one hour. Wait until it is completely dry before applying the next color. It is desirable that the first layer be white on all parts of the aircraft model.

To make a silvery pigment, mix 2 parts of aluminum powder, 1 part of fir varnish, 2 parts of solvent in a glass vial. Throw 2-3 balls from a small bearing into the bottle to shake the powder that settles to the bottom during storage. This composition dries about 25 minutes.

Step 3

To prevent the plane from looking like it just got off the counter of a toy store, add a little light gray pigment or tooth powder to the aluminum dye to achieve the effect of a faded surface. Use the color and application of the texture to make the propeller look wooden, paint the cover on the propeller hub, crankcase and engine cylinders a dull gray color, the exhaust pipes should have a rusty color, paint the cylinder pushers light silver. Coat the cannons and machine guns with a dark gray color, grease in places to a dull surface.

Step 4

To make the rubber of the chassis wheels look worn, add a little white paint to the black nitro enamel, after drying, touch up in the right places with a mixture of dark brown and white paint. Airbrush or spray onto the fuselage with gray-brown or dark gray exhaust marks. Aim for a not too matte, but also not very glossy surface of the painted parts.

Step 5

With the help of historical documentary and literary sources, clarify in advance what colors were used to paint the aircraft of the model that you built, what was the shape of the spots of the camouflage used, what insignia and emblems were used by the aviation industry of a particular country. At different times of the year, depending on the climate, the planes were colored differently. The color of the lower and upper surfaces of night bombers and reconnaissance aircraft was fundamentally different from the colors of combat vehicles operating during the day.
