Even the most accurate airplane model will be unfinished without painting. It can copy a real design on the body of an existing aircraft or match your fantasies. In any case, this stage of work requires the connection of creativity, perseverance and attentiveness.
Instructions
Step 1
Choose paints that are suitable for the material the model is made of. The accuracy and durability of the coating depends on this. Acrylic is suitable for almost all types, which is available in several versions - for various porous and smooth materials. It can be mixed and diluted with water like a watercolor, looking for a more accurate shade, and after drying, the coloring of your aircraft will not fade or fade for a long time.
Step 2
Find or draw a pattern that you will use to paint the plane. If you are making an exact copy of a model, find a photo of it on the Internet. For a fantasy flying machine, come up with an original pattern and reflect it on paper. Collect some illustrations showing the plane from different angles.
Step 3
Mix in the palette a shade to paint over the base - the whole body. Apply it to the plane using a hard brush (if the model is made of porous material) or an airbrush. Wait for the paint to dry.
Step 4
Make markings on the surface of the model so as not to make mistakes when drawing out the finer details. Use small pencil strokes to mark the width and length of the stripes on the body, the intersections of the elements and the boundaries of the application of different colors.
Step 5
Take a thin, stiff brush (synthetic or bristle) and use it to finish painting the remaining elements, moving from large to small parts.
Step 6
When the paint is dry, cure it with a matte or glossy varnish. This procedure is required if you have diluted the acrylic with water and painted a non-porous model. In order not to damage the livery of the aircraft, choose a varnish in a spray can. Place the model on a paper or plastic lined surface and spray the varnish on all sides. After the first coat has dried, apply the second.
Step 7
To create the illusion of an airplane made of metal, coat the wooden, plastic or cardboard model with metallic paints.
