Polymer clay is an excellent material for making crafts and jewelry. It is easy to mold the desired shape from it. And for the product to be durable, it must be heat treated. The best way to do this is to bake in the oven.

It is necessary

  • - oven;
  • - paper;
  • - thermometer;
  • - clock;
  • - cold water.

Instructions

Step 1

Before placing the sculpted items in the oven, carefully read the instructions that came with the polymer clay. The firing time is indicated there, based on the width of the product and the specific type of clay. Typically, the optimum temperature ranges from 110 to 130 degrees.

Step 2

Choose a pot for firing polymer clay. This is best done on ceramic tiles or earthenware. You can also use a regular baking sheet, but only one on which you do not cook food. Otherwise, you can get a little poisoning, since polymer clay releases toxic substances under the influence of high temperatures.

Step 3

Place the items on a baking sheet and place them in the cold oven. To make the beads bake well, you can put them on toothpicks stuck in crumpled foil. If there are no holes in them, place the beads on accordion-folded paper. It is better to put a flat product on paper without a picture or pattern.

Step 4

Set the oven to the desired temperature and follow the time indicated on the clay package. If the products are pulled out ahead of time, they will crack and crumble over time, and if overexposed, they will darken, the surface will become glossy and an unpleasant odor will form. You can control the temperature in the oven using a special thermometer sold in home appliances stores.

Step 5

Take out the finished products, leave them to cool or rinse them under cold water. The latter option will make the clay more transparent and flexible. After the clay has cooled and dried, you can do anything with it: skin, paint, or wash.

Step 6

Wash hands thoroughly with soapy water, rinse tools and wipe used surfaces at the end of work. If you fired in a food-grade oven, wash that too to avoid sweat poisoning. Then ventilate the area well.
