We all grew up on fairy tales about beautiful princesses, who cannot be imagined without a gorgeous fluffy dress. Capricious fashion at times gives us the opportunity to be such queens in fluffy dresses. And also wedding dresses, evening dresses, children's dresses … In such models one cannot do without a petticoat. It is at his expense that you can achieve the volumetric silhouette. Let's try to sew this wardrobe item ourselves.

Instructions

Step 1

The essence of petticoat sewing is simple. At the heart is an A-shaped underskirt on which frills of different lengths are sewn. The shortest is at the top and the longest is at the bottom. Take the material - mesh is best. She keeps her shape perfectly. Measure your waist and make a pattern for your base skirt (for example, six-blade, sun, half-sun). Cut this skirt out of tulle or calico. Don't forget to leave a fastener slit near your waist. The petticoat can be fastened with hooks or buttons.

Step 2

Determine the length of your petticoat based on the length of your top skirt or dress. It should be a couple of centimeters shorter. Start sewing the frills. Their length depends on the desired splendor of the skirt. The lowest frill should be about three times wider than the base of the petticoat. You can calculate as follows: measure the length of the sewing line of each ruffle and multiply the resulting number by the coefficient of gathering (it can be from 2 to 2, 5). The thinner the mesh, the higher the coefficient should be taken. Regarding the width of the frills, it is worth noting that narrow frills give a certain roundness, volume, and wide ones can create a smoother silhouette. The number of ruffles can vary from three to eight. Set the maximum stitch length on the sewing machine. Sew each frill to make a ring. Sew the long edge with a typewriter. Gather the fabric by pulling the thread and straighten the wrinkles. When you get the width you want, draw out the threads and tie the knots.

Step 3

After finishing all the ruffles this way, sew them to your skirt. This must be done so that the top frill covers the attachment line of the bottom frill by four centimeters.

Step 4

Sew a bias tape over the edge of the mesh, as the mesh can irritate the skin and can leave a lot of snagging on the stockings. Try it on with a top skirt or dress - check how it sits.
