Resin is an organic substance that is a product of plant metabolism and has a complex chemical composition. Most resins have a solid or semi-solid consistency, have pronounced aromatic properties. For trees, resin is a kind of healing factor that protects the wood from cracking and drying out, and prevents pests. The resin is collected in the spring-summer period from the wood and bark of coniferous trees. Rosin, turpentine and camphor are produced from it.
Instructions
Step 1
Make a cone-shaped container for collecting the resin, or take a ready-made one. In order to be able to attach it to a tree trunk, a small lapel should be provided on the wide part. Or take office tape for these purposes.
Step 2
The procedure for collecting resin is called tapping and is performed in forests intended for felling. For the manufacture of products, for example, from pine, wood is taken from cut trees. Otherwise, the product will release resin for a long time when exposed to heat. Choose a tree with a trunk diameter of at least thirty centimeters.
Step 3
Secure the funnel at the bottom of the trunk with the wide end up, taper down, at or above your waist.
Step 4
When the container for collecting the resin is fixed, start making wide, shallow, parallel cuts-notches higher up the trunk to the middle of the vertical - about twenty to thirty. They should be positioned at a forty-five degree angle from the top of the barrel and down to the center. Mirror these marks on the other half. You should get shallow lines converging downward into a funnel.
Step 5
If such notches have already been made in the previous year, then shift their application in a direction, for example, from the east side of the trunk to the north. The next year, apply notches on the west side, after another year - on the south side. In the fifth year, the tree is allowed to rest, after which the five-year harvest cycle can be repeated.
Step 6
Leave the resin to build up for a few days. Visit the collection point periodically to check if the container is full or to stop the release of resin.
Step 7
When the resin ceases to stand out, detach the filled container from the trunk, and lightly coat the cuts with garden varnish.
