The ostrich is a large, strong bird that travels great distances at a run. She has huge strong legs, and her wings, unlike other birds, are very poorly developed. When drawing, you can ignore them at all.
The bird emerges from the egg
For a novice artist, before learning to draw an object, it is best to analyze its image. Consider a picture of a running ostrich. You will see a large warmth of an almost regular oval shape, a long neck with a small head, powerful legs with pronounced feet and knees.
Lay the sheet horizontally. To draw this inhabitant of hot countries in stages, start with the horizon line, which will help you better navigate the page. Draw a large egg that lies almost horizontally. Pay attention to how the ostrich holds its head. If he is not frightened, his neck is almost vertical. Draw a vertical line from one end of the oval. Its height is approximately equal to the long axis of the oval.
If you want to draw an ostrich with its head buried in the sand, draw an arc from one of the ends of the oval - the line at an angle to the horizontal first goes up a little, then bends and goes down sharply.
Head and neck
When drawing the head, pay attention to the position of other parts of the body. When an ostrich is running or standing calmly, its small head is also an oval, lying almost horizontally.
The neck of this bird is rather thin. You can, of course, draw a parallel vertical line, but if the drawing is not very large, it is better to simply circle the already drawn line with a softer pencil. If the drawing is large, draw an eye. It is round and rather large in the ostrich.
If you draw the neck with parallel lines, one starts from the most convex part of the torso oval, the other just above. The second line ends at the most convex point of the head, the first - slightly lower.
Legs and tail
The legs of an ostrich are about the same length as the neck and head. When the bird runs, they diverge almost at right angles. Find the middle of the lower torso and draw two guides at the desired angle. Set aside the approximate length of your neck on them. Make marks in the middle of the lines - these will be the knee joints. Draw the legs with a softer pencil. Thicken the knee joints. Feet can be drawn with just thick straight lines.
The ostrich's tail is not very long, but lush. It should not interfere with running, so it sticks up. It can be depicted as a trapezoid with rounded corners, the short side of which is adjacent to the body.
Down and feathers
Like all birds, the ostrich has feathers. They are quite large and pretty. You can draw them with wavy vertical lines. At the ends of the wings, the waves will be larger than at the neck. The head of the bird is also covered with small feathers. Draw wavy lines on it too. As for the legs and neck, their structure can be depicted with sparsely spaced short horizontal strokes.
