In the old days, felt boots cost a lot of money. In peasant families, they often wore one pair for all, and they wore them only on major holidays. Today, felt boots can be bought at almost every corner, but making them yourself is as easy as buying.

It is necessary

  • - wool for wet felting
  • - packaging film (with bursting balls)
  • - mosquito net or tulle
  • - hot water
  • - dish detergent
  • - pan
  • - sponge for washing dishes

Instructions

Step 1

Draw a sketch of the future boots on a sheet of Whatman paper. The sketch should represent not one felt boot, but both boots, connected together by the tops. When creating a sketch, it is worth remembering that in the process of felting, the future boots will sit down by about 30%. Then transfer the sketch to the wrapping film. On the film cut in this way, begin to lay the wool for felting. Prepare a soapy solution in advance (dilute a couple of drops of detergent in warm water).

Step 2

Wool must be laid exactly in shape and not protrude more than 1 cm beyond the pattern from the packaging film. Lay the first layer with strands of wool along the pattern, lay the second layer across. Then cover the workpiece with a net, moisten it with soapy water and start to roll. Flip over to the other side, fold over the protruding ends of the wool. And repeat the procedure with laying and felting on this side.

Step 3

The whole process must be repeated alternately on each side until you get the desired thickness of the felt boot. Having achieved the desired thickness, wash the future boots in warm soapy water and start crushing them as if it were dough. Having finished with this procedure, cut the workpiece in half, into two felt boots. Fill each felt boot with paper, shaping it, and put to dry in a warm place.
