Instructions
Step 1
To sew a sheath dress that would perfectly fit your figure, you need to build a base pattern according to your measurements. Moreover, its accuracy depends on how correctly your parameters are measured.
Step 2
Find the right material for making your dress. Any dress fabric that holds its shape well is suitable for sewing. A strict office version can be sewn from woolen or suiting fabric, a summer model from linen, an outfit for a special occasion - from a lace fabric. For sewing, you will need a cut 150 cm wide and equal to one dress length plus 10 cm for allowances.
Step 3
Open the fabric. Fold it in half in half and attach the pattern, circle the pattern and cut out the parts, leaving 1.5 cm for allowances along all the cuts. Next, it is necessary to transfer the lines of the darts and seams as accurately as possible to a second similar part. To do this, fold the patterns with the wrong sides to each other, precisely combining all the sections and tap on the surface with your palm, the chalk lines should be imprinted on the second part.
Step 4
Sweep all darts, side seams, and shoulder seams and try on for the first time. Make the necessary adjustments. To make it easier to clarify the lines of seams and darts, put on the dress on the wrong side. Sweep along the refined lines and try a second fitting. A sheath dress should fit perfectly on the figure, so try to achieve the best possible result.
Step 5
After all the seams have been adjusted, you can proceed directly to sewing. Sew on all darts from the widest part. Press them down.
Step 6
Then sew shoulder and side seams and overlock them. If you do not have this tool, then you can process the sections using a zig-zag stitch on a regular sewing machine.
Step 7
Trim the neckline and sleeves. Duplicate the details with non-woven fabric. Sew the bottom of the piping with an overlap stitch. Attach to the front of the garment and stitch. In places where the neckline and armholes are rounded, cut the allowance to the seam. Turn the piping to the wrong side and iron it carefully. Sew them by hand with a blind stitch.
Step 8
Try on the sheath dress again to find out the length. Cut the hem on an overlock. Turn to the wrong side by 3-4 cm. Press the hem and hem with a blind stitch.
