It so happens that your favorite trousers are worn out or fed up, but they fit perfectly and it is a pity to part with them. In this case, with minimal sewing skills and unlimited imagination, you can remake old trousers into a skirt. The easiest way is to alter tight denim trousers, because jeans are quite durable and not difficult to process fabric.
It is necessary
- - old pants;
- - sewing machine;
- - threads;
- - details for decoration (sequins, ribbons, lace, etc.)
Instructions
Step 1
Open the crotch and middle seams and remove any thread that comes out. Wash and dry your old jeans. Iron the resulting workpiece through damp cheesecloth. It is advisable to cut off all the frayed places of the seams, otherwise in a new product they run the risk of creeping after the very first wash. You can cut off excess fabric from the crotch seam, or lay one piece on top of the other and simply stitch it. If the width of the skirt after this is not enough, then it will be necessary to insert a wedge.
Step 2
Decide on the length and model of the future skirt. Lay out the workpiece on the table. Sweep and sew the middle seam. If the skirt is planned to be very short, it will be enough to cut off the trousers and process the lower cut (be sure to leave 2-3 cm for finishing). You can also fluff the denim down with a fringe, sew on a flounce, braid or lace.
Step 3
If you plan to make the skirt long, you will need to insert a wedge. For this purpose, you can cut out pieces from cut-off legs or pick up another fabric. The wedge looks like a triangle. Inserts made of translucent fabric, linen, corduroy or velvet look good. Cut out the correct size wedge. Sweep it in and try on the product. Stitch seams and overlock or zigzag the edges.
Step 4
If the skirt comes out tight, be sure to leave the slits. Run them on the side or on the front of the skirt. Trim the edges of the cuts with lace or trim with the fabric from which the wedge was cut.
Step 5
You can decorate the resulting product with embroidery or braid. If desired, add an applique to the fabric, embroider the ornament with beads or ribbons. If there are bald patches or spots on the fabric, cover them with a pattern using special fabric dyes.
