A children's sweater with buttons or zippers is a convenient, practical product that you simply cannot do without in cold weather. To knit a children's sweater with knitting needles means to provide your fashionista with a thing that is not only comfortable, but also truly exclusive.
Knitted sweater for children: the main part of the product
To make your child's clothes really warm, use 100% wool or blended yarn with a small percentage of acrylic to knit a children's sweatshirt. Make a sample of the knitted fabric in advance with the selected pattern. This will allow you to adjust the size, the number of starting buttonholes for the cut details and the amount of material used.
So, with a knitting density of 21 loops and 28 rows in a 10x10 square for a child 3-4 years old with a height of 98-104 cm, you will need 350 g of yarn. The main pattern is the front surface, the working tools are a pair of circular knitting needles No. 4 and one auxiliary pattern of the same diameter. To start knitting the main part of the sweater cut, dial 169 loops on the knitting needles.
Run 6 straight and back rows of knitted fabric, adding 1 thread bow each before the 10th loop and after the 11th, counting from the center of the front. Also, make increments at the end of each row: before the 11th loop and after the 10th from the edge of the canvas. In total, you should have 173 loops on the knitting needles (you put 4 additional thread bows into work).
After the 48th loop, on each side, strengthen the contrasting threads so that there are 77 thread arms on the back of the garment between the marks. Tie the fabric 25 cm high by making 4 button holes in the place of the fastener.
For the hole of the fastener, you can close 3 loops, and in the next row, dial the same number of air bows above them.
Right and left shelves of the jacket
Divide the main part of the sweater into parts using the marks with contrasting thread. First, put in 48 loops. Knit the right shelf, after each purl row, making increases for the sleeves in the following sequence:
- add 4 loops 3 times;
- 8 loops 3 times;
- 10 loops 1 time;
- 24 loops 1 time.
In total, you should have 118 thread arms. The last 10 stitches at the edge of the fabric will be the cuff lapel. It can be done with garter stitch (in each row there are front loops). When the canvas is 35 cm high, knit the slats on the loops 2 front, 2 together, 2 front, 2 together.
Set aside in the next row 13 loops at the center of the front on an additional straight knitting needle and proceed to the neckline. For her, decrease at the beginning of the row (center of the front) 2 times 2 loops; 3 times - one. There will be 96 thread arms on the spoke. Knit the piece until it is 40 cm long. Perform the left shelf according to the finished sample, but mirrored.

Work 77 stitches into the back of the garment between the contrasting threads, pulling on additional temples for the sleeves on each side. Use ready-made shelves as a reference. You will have a wide canvas containing 217 stitches. Sew the 10 outermost loops on opposite sides with garter stitch (for cuffs).
When the fabric reaches 38 cm, close the center 23 stitches for the cutout. Finish each shoulder and sleeve separately. At the neck, close 1 loop (on the needle - 96 thread arms). After tying a piece with a length of 40 cm, close the loops and tie the fabric according to the finished sample on the other side.
Sew the line of the shoulders and sleeves of the children's sweater, make neat seams in the armpits. On the cutout of the sewn sweater, cast on 75 loops (including from additional knitting needles) and complete 2 rows of garter stitch hood fabric. At the same time, in the same areas, make increases (101 loops in total).
The hood can be replaced with a strap (1x1 elastic) or crochet the neckline, with two rows of single crochet - first from right to left, then with a "crustacean step" - from left to right.
Knit the hood in a basic pattern, making 6 loops with garter stitch on opposite sides (hem cuff). To bend the part, add 6 more thread bows (total - 113 loops) and sew them with garter stitch. When the hood reaches 28 cm, close the loops of the last row, fold the piece in half and sew from the wrong side. Unscrew the edge and secure at the bottom of the cutout.
