Spiral

For those who first began to knit the heel of a sock on the needles, it is recommended to start with the simplest option - spiral knitting. If you have already mastered the work of five stocking needles in a circle over a tubular fabric, you know what a 2x2, 4x4 elastic is. then doing the heel in a spiral will not be difficult.

Start knitting a sock, alternating knit 2 and purl 2. Make the stretch top to the desired height. After that, knit several rows of the front surface to the beginning of the heel and go to the spiral pattern. Make three circles of 4x4 elastic, then mark the end of the circular row with a marker (pin, thread of a contrasting color).

From this mark, you will begin to gradually move the pattern so that it twists in a spiral manner. Slide the 4x4 rapport over the eyelet and continue to knit the heel, alternating knit 4 and purl 4. When you knit 3 rows, you reach the mark, again offset the rapport by one loop.

Continue to knit the heel in a spiral pattern, moving the rapport in every fourth row. Try on a loose-fitting product. When it reaches the middle of the sole, switch to hosiery and finish the sock as usual. Such an original heel will anatomically repeat the features of the foot.

Traditional

The heel, most familiar to experienced needlewomen, is made in the form of a cup. It is fixed, dense, although you will have to tinker with it. Sew an elastic to the sock, with the front stitch - a leg.

Now you will knit a heel sock on the needles, but already on two. On one of the knitting needles, string all the loops, with the other, start knitting the front surface. Make straight and back rows until you get a canvas equal to the height of the heel. The last row is front.

Divide the row into 3 equal segments, distribute over 3 knitting needles, while the odd thread bow (if any) must be attached to the middle.

Now, from the inside out of the work, you will begin to knit the heel of the sock. Knit stitches with the front stitch in the following sequence:

- the left side of the heel;

- Centre;

- the last loop of the center and the extreme loop of the right side - together with the purl;

- do not knit the rest of the side thread bows and unfold the work.

Remove the hem loop, knit the center, and do not knit the last center thread. Grab it together with the first loop of the side and perform the front loop at the back lobes. Expand knitting.

Follow the pattern until all side loops have been knitted. The last row should be knit. A dense cup has formed, the heel is tied.

"Boomerang"

Master short stitches for a different heel knit. Perhaps it will seem simpler than the previous one. Knit a sock until you reach the beginning of your heel. After that, divide all the loops of the circle in half. The first and fourth knitting needles are in use.

Perform a row with front loops, unfold it and divide it into 3 equal segments: left side, center, right side. The second row of the heel of the sock is made with purl loops.

Place the thread in front of work, insert the knitting needle into the starting loop of the row, making a movement to the left, remove the loop and thread untied. The result is a double loop, which needs to be tightened well - then there will be no ugly hole in the work. Having tied the seamy row, unfold the work.

Sew a new double loop, tighten, knit a row, but not all the way - the last (double) loop remains unchanged. Expand knitting. Knit the next row, leaving the final double, turn the work over.

This way, you continue to knit the heel of the toe in shortened rows until you have completed all the sides and come to the center of the piece. In front of you is half of the so-called boomerang heel.

Return to circular knitting on four stocking needles, making a couple of rows, while doing the double loops as one thread bow. After that, you will be making a symmetrical second heel.

In the first row - front, knit the middle of the part and unfold the work. In the second row, purl, remembering to make the initial double loop. Expand the work.

Next, expand the middle of the part in the following sequence:

- double, facial; double and the following loop - also facial, reversal of the work;

- double loop; purl; double and next loop knit purl, work reversal.

- repeat these manipulations until all double loops and sides of the heel are connected.

Now you know how to knit the heel of a sock in a variety of ways, and you can perfect yourself with practical and cozy knitwear.
