You can become a professional musician at any age, but for this you will have to work hard and hard on yourself. You can start training both from scratch and with some basic knowledge.

It is necessary

  • Musical instrument
  • Teaching materials

Instructions

Step 1

Decide which musical instrument you want to play. Today there are a great many of them, however, all musical instruments are subdivided into strings (guitars, violins, cello, harps), winds (trumpet, saxophone, flute, trombone), keyboards (piano, organ, grand piano) and percussion (drums, there and there) … Each type of instrument has its own "light" and "complex" tools, so you can choose what your heart desires, and then go into the subtleties. For example, among the stringed instruments, the guitar and banjo will probably be the lightest, and among the wind instruments - the recorder (children are taught to play it, but this is an ideal instrument for performing medieval and other ancient music). Watch several videos on the Internet, talk to musicians you know, listen to audio recordings. Sooner or later you will understand what is closest to you.

Step 2

Purchase the required tool. It is better to immediately buy your instrument, which will be with you from the beginning of training until the period when you "outgrow" it. It is not worth renting tools, since they may not be of very high quality, and if you are asked to return it ahead of time, it will be quite difficult to switch to a new tool at the learning stage. Music teachers advise you to start with good instruments right away because they are easier to learn and less likely to make mistakes. Cheap instruments may not be of high quality to begin with, and tend to distort the sound when you think you are making mistakes.

Step 3

Hire a private teacher. Many people try to study on their own by downloading video tutorials and buying so-called “for dummies” literature. Of course, you can learn anything yourself, and you probably have a lot of examples when an excellent musician was initially self-taught. However, no book or video will ever replace a living professional who hears your flaws, sees your hands, shows you how to sit correctly, how to hold the instrument correctly, how to breathe correctly if you are a wind blower, how to place your fingers on the keys. The teacher will notice subtleties and little things in your teaching that you yourself will never see. A teacher can give you more in a few lessons than you can learn from an entire book. So if you have the financial ability and time to attend the classes of a high-quality teacher, do not hesitate.

Step 4

Exercise regularly. The more and more you train, the faster you will achieve success. It should be remembered that the main thing is not the duration of the training, but the regularity. Better to do 30 minutes every day than 4 hours once a week.
