In ancient European fairy tales, gnomes were little people. They wore long beards and caps. Dwarves may be evil and kind, but they have always participated in incredible adventures. Fabulous creatures turned into a whole people, about which Tolkien told a lot. But his gnomes, which differ little in size from people, still have something in common with their distant relatives from medieval legends and folk tales.

Man, yes not quite

The gnome is very human. But in this case, it is not necessary to observe the classical proportions of a human figure. It is more convenient to draw this character if the sheet lies vertically. Draw a long vertical line roughly in the middle. Draw a horizontal line a short distance from the bottom edge of the sheet.

The gnome can be drawn in a different order, without auxiliary lines. The face can be oval or pear-shaped.

Pear and triangle

Draw the curve of your gnome's body. To do this, draw a curved line that intersects the vertical axis in several places. Mark this line. Note the height of the gnome, the height of the hat, the size of the face, the length of the beard, belt, knees, feet. Draw the outlines of the face - for example, in the form of a pear, but not with a concave, but with a convex bottom. The gnome has a triangular hat on his head.

Please note that the cap covers the entire upper part of the face; its edge is also visible from the side that is farther from the viewer.

Torso, arms and legs

Draw the torso along with the arms and legs. It is a curved oval, the long axis of which is the nearly vertical curved line you draw. Draw a beard - with a solid triangular spot or separate uneven strands. Bend the sides of the triangle slightly, and round the top. The beard is visible both from the side that is closer to you, and from the opposite. It goes down to the waist and even a little lower - only the edge of the shirt is visible from under it.

The gnome can fold his hands on his stomach. Then they will be bent at the elbows. Draw intertwined fingers - the hands are round and the fingers are oval. The gnome's legs are thick and short. Each leg is just two nearly parallel vertical lines curved slightly in the middle. Your character has very large oval feet. However, gnomes sometimes wear ordinary boots or medieval shoes with upward curved toes.

Face

The gnome has a big potato nose. It's okay that the potatoes turn out to be uneven, this is the way it should be. The eyes are two vertical ovals, inside of which there are round irises and round pupils. Make sure that both eyes are looking at the same point. Above the eyes are high arched eyebrows. They can be drawn simply with thin arcs, and the eyebrow that is farther from the viewer will be visible only partially. But the eyebrows can be very thick, then you need to sketch out their contours, and then circle them in zigzag lines.

The gnome smiles, his mouth is curved, and from the corners there are cheerful wrinkles. The drawing will turn out to be more expressive if your character is holding something in his hands - a bouquet of flowers or a cake.
