An old favorite dress, out of fashion and a little shabby, can get a new life and delight you for several more years. You just need to freshen it up a little with modern detergents and your imagination.
Instructions
Step 1
Wash clothes with color-restoring detergents. Use a mild bleach to wash yellowed and grayed items.
Step 2
Remove any spools from clothing. Use special detergents for this during washing. Then treat with a machine to remove the pellets. Especially carefully clean the places where the sleeve rubs against the fabric of the shelf, armpits. Be careful not to damage the material with the cutting elements of the machine.
Step 3
Unfold any old worn buttons. Sew on new ones that match the style and size. Do the same with buckles and other plastic decorations. This rule also applies to frills made from old laces. Unfasten them, sew on new ones, or leave the thing without this decor element.
Step 4
Sew sequins, sequins or bugles on the frayed areas of the front shelf and neck area. Use ribbons or pieces of leather to hide small holes eaten by moths. Don't go overboard with decorating your clothes.
Step 5
Replace your worn belt. Get a stylish new belt made of leather or a substitute. If the garment requires a belt made of fabric, sew it yourself from a material that contrasts in color with the main shade of the garment.
Step 6
Trim the sleeves if the elbow areas are badly worn. Finish the edge of the sleeve, sew on the cuffs from new material. If the style of the garment allows, open the sleeve completely, gently fold the fabric at the shoulder neckline.
Step 7
Shorten your dress or skirt. This will hide the creases that have formed around the edge of the garment and will refresh its appearance. Iron the hem, fold it in, and hem with a blind stitch.
Step 8
Replace the patch pockets with new ones, cut from fabric that is similar in texture and quality to the material of the dress, and matches the color of the old garment. Use the same fabric as for replacing the belt, cuffs.
