A family photo album is a relic, the value of which increases every year. True, the passing time does not in the best way affect its appearance. Since in this case everything is valuable, even the paper on which the photographs are pasted, it is better not to transfer the photographs to a new album, but to try to fix the old one.

Step 1
In albums that have been flipped many times, the corners of the pages are quickly destroyed. To restore their integrity and give the old paper a neat look, make "covers" for these corners. Choose thick paper or thin cardboard that matches the color of the pages in your album. Draw a right triangle on it. The sides that make up the right angle should be 3 cm long. Draw the flaps to them in the form of rectangles with rounded or cut corners. Make the second part of the corner without valves. Cut out the parts, grease the valves with glue and connect both fragments. When the pad is dry, you can slide it over the page and secure it with glue. Style the top and bottom corners of all pages of the album this way.
Step 2
Other parts of the pages may also be damaged. If you don't want to transfer photos to a new album, you can mask the flaws. A shabby old look is a virtue of the album, it looks like a relic that carries the history of the family. Use this style to fix defects. Torn pages can be sealed with patches of paper - this will emphasize the venerable age of the item. Find on the Internet or old postcards images of the time to which the photographs belong. Cut out pictures of era-specific objects. They can cover the spots on the pages of the album and at the same time convey the spirit of the times.
Step 3
Old binding may need to be reinforced. To do this, you need thick paper in the color of the pages of the album. If they turn yellow over time, tint the white paper with tea or coffee to achieve the same shade. Cut out strips equal to the length of the album. Their width should be such that one blank, pasted between the pages, goes over each of them by at least 1 cm, but does not overlap the photographs. Open the album on the first spread. Fold the paper strip in half lengthwise. Glue it in the center between two adjacent pages. Make sure that the pages are on the same level, strictly parallel to the table surface. Leave the spread open until completely dry. In this way, strengthen all pages if the album is very dilapidated, or every 5th spread is for prevention.
Step 4
If the photos themselves are no longer in the best condition, they are frayed, faded, torn - restore them. Each photo can be scanned and retouched in a graphic editor. Do it yourself or ask a darkroom for help.
