Instructions

Step 1

Before starting to paint with gouache, the paint should be diluted with water. There are several techniques that can be used to paint with gouache paints. Each of them has its own characteristics and is good in its own way.

Step 2

You can write wet on dry. Use a wet gouache brush to write on dry paper. This method is suitable for writing shapes with clear outlines, where there is no need to wash out the color. Particularly impressive are clear strokes of paint standing side by side, sometimes overlapping each other.

Step 3

The next technique is disguise. The highlight of the method is that areas that should remain white are covered with a layer of masking fluid. Drying, the liquid forms a moisture-proof film. After the paint has dried in the places where the liquid is applied, the paint is washed along with the film. As a result, clear white outlines appear in the painting.

Step 4

To use the wet-on-wet technique, the paint must be diluted with water more strongly than usual. Before writing, it is better to moisten the paper with a brush. Then it is necessary to apply the diluted gouache on the paper, and on top add a highly diluted paint of a different tone. As a result, the colors will blur, forming bizarre shapes.

Step 5

There is a sgraffito technique. It must be carried out at high speed so that the paint does not have time to dry. First of all, paint should be applied in two or more layers. Then you need to scratch off the top layer to expose the bottom. To do this, use a thin pointed stick or the edge of a knife. This technique is perfect for creating textured paintings.

Step 6

The spray technique will require a new small paint brush, designed for gouache only. Load the brush generously with paint, then pull the bristles back and release. You will get a sea of beautiful colored splashes, which will fall on the paper in different directions. In order not to splatter the whole picture, you need to make a paper mask. The mask will cover those places that are not involved in the process at the moment. Using all the techniques of writing, you can not only create wonderful pictures, but also get real pleasure from the work.
