Acoustic drums, especially bass drums, can produce deafening, unsettling noise for neighbors, especially in poorly soundproofed living spaces. Instead of trying to play as quietly as possible, you can easily muffle the drums using the materials at hand (pillows, blankets, warm jackets, etc.)

Step 1
Start with the bass drum. Unscrew the screws holding the front of the drum to its body using a drum wrench. Move the removed part to the side.
Step 2
Place pillows (or blankets) inside the drum so that they rest against the front when you replace it. To prevent them from scattering inside, seal them with something heavy, such as sandbags.
Step 3
Replace the unscrewed front part, securing it securely with the screws. Check out the new drum sound. If the sound is still loud to you, pad the drum until the result is satisfactory.
Step 4
It's time for the snare drum. Unfortunately, muting it completely will have a significant impact on the feel and quality of your practice.
Step 5
The main noise in the snare drum is made by metal hoops that wrap around its body. To mute the sound, it is recommended to tighten them more or remove them completely.
Step 6
Insert two pieces of foam rubber 50 mm thick into the body inward, into the spacer to both layers, so that they rest against the layers, but leave the space in the center of the drum empty. Alternatively, you can purchase a Kevlar pad from a store and fit it onto the drum.
Step 7
If you want to, you can fill the snare drum with pillows or rags, but this decision will greatly affect the rebound force, which will make it difficult for you to play on normal drums in the future. If you are looking for a completely deaf drum, it is better to purchase a rubber practice pad from the store that simulates the force of the rebound of a real drum.
